Tiger Clean Install

Hi There.

Am selling my Powerbook G4 on Ebay and need to do a clean install of Tiger.

I have the discs but have never done this before! Is this fairly simple to do? I have backed up all the documents.

Many Thanks

Powerbook G4, Mac OS X (10.4.11)

When selling a computer it is a good idea to secure erase the hard drive. A normal erase just removes reference to files on the drive but does not actually delete the data (it just marks the space as available for future data storage). It is possible to recover the files using readily available software. Here are instructions on partitioning (you don't need to do this) and formatting a drive (which also erases it). There's a button to select security options in the formatting window of Disk Utility. Writing free space with zeros once should be adequate unless you really stored incredibly sensitive data on this computer. Writing zeros can take a long time and if you select the highest option you may have to wait several days for your computer to do it!

Ah, yes, USB won't work at all for PPC Macs if that's the connection method, and some FW ones aren't bootable.

If you have a FW cable, put this install Disc in the other Mac, boot the other Mac into FireWire target disk mode...

Boot this one with the Option key held down, wait for the Install Disc in the ither one to show up as a boot choice.
