This ****** Icon has suddenly appeared on my start screen and I want it removed.
In another thread, there is advice that it will disappear through the use of the passcode function. Frankly, the pass code is more of an inconvenience than the icon.
When I hit the icon I ger blurred images of camera gear and some sort of green outline.

I don't understand this. It is built in to the iOS and you can't turn it off - unless you use the passcode - but you say it suddenly appeared on the screen? Just one day out of the blue it appeared? There is no way to remove it permanently from the iPad.

Yes - I agree to some extent so I've never used the passcode. Nobody uses my iPad but me.

This has me puzzled as well. The picture frame uses images stored in your Photos app so this image I would assume is in one of your albums on the iPad. Go to Settings>Picture Frame> and you can select All Photos, Albums, Faces, Events - however the photos are organized - and then select another "sub folder" from there.
See if the image is in your photos app.
You response is extremely interesting and helpful. I followed your steps and saw the photo image in there - and certainly not one I had taken. By going into "camera", (there seems to be no photos app, as such) I was able to delete the image and, behold! The icon on the start page disappeared!
Other threads on this issue have referred to what seems to be bootleg adverts.
Many thanks.
I could tell from reading your other posts that the situation was starting to get to you so I'm glad that I was able to help you - at least a little bit anyway!
😉
Yes, nothing like a cold, wet morning (in Auckland) for trivia to irritate one!
I am a neanderthal with these things - Iphone and now, Ipad2 - and I am as much annoyed with myself as I am by the issue! I probably should go out more!
Cheers
New iPad, sudden appearance of annoying little flower. Following Demo and Footplate's posts, I too went to the camera icon. The only photo there (I hadn't taken any photos yet) was the new screensaver I added from Apple's "wallpaper" (Settings>Brightness and Wallpaper). I deleted this photo and the annoying little flower disappeared! Thanks (And no need for passcode)!!

You do realize this is a year old thread, don't you? 😝
And if you add ANY photos, it will come back.
James,
1. I was responding to Demo and Footplate, thanking them for their help and noting why there was a sudden appearance of the annoying little flower - my contribution being the discovery that the wallpaper change was seen as a new photo which caused ALF to appear
2. As soon as I sent the post, I saw that this was from July 2011 and didn't think much of it except that this is my first iPad (my wife's) and was glad to see someone was able to assist me in getting rid of ALF
3. You read the post, maybe some other lost soul like me noted it as well and was equally glad to hear that their problem too could be solved and WHY ALF was there in the first place
4. Thanks for adding that ALF will return if any photos are added; we may use the iPad for occasional photos but they are likely to be for capture only and deleted from this device; we have dedicated cameras for serious photography
5. Lastly, the thread being a year old is immaterial; the comment that adding ANY photos would cause ALF to return was pertinent
The age of the thread, any thread, could easily be pertinent since there have been multiple iOS upgrades since it was last refreshed, one of them major.
