Keychain export

Use the Import function on the new Mac.

There can be at least 3 locations for Keychains...

/Library/Keychains

/Users/YourUserName/Library/Keychains

/System/Library/Keychains

want all my keychain items (usernames, passwords) available to the new system

Some of those may be in your old Browsers.

This didn't really answer the question. I have the same issue. I bought a new mac and I want to transfer my keychain passwords from the old to the new mac. I cannot however "export" from the old mac keychain.

I know how to import into the new mac, but how can I get the info of my old Mac?

Hi, your best bet would be to Use Migration Assistant.

Mine is greyed too, so I don't know how to export them. However, I'm assuming backup programs do.

Some people know I distinguish 'backups' from 'archives'. 'Archives' are for information I'll want in the future: I write two copies to optical discs, then delete them from my drive. 'Backups' are for keychains, cookies, &c.

I may use Apple's 'Backup', for it leaves a copy on my iDisk as well as LaCie key; but I've downloaded iBackup, and my target drive, a LaCie key, should be arriving today. This keeps the really critical data off site.

A backup & restore might work.

I read really a lot about exporting passwords from Keychain. It seems the following link solved the problem to some people: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1163575&#1163575

but it does not work for me. I got some error and the program aborted.
No other solution on the web proposed by anyone!

Is it so difficult to retrieve my data from keychain? I need to write all password information to a clear text file. This would really help me in my job (often around, sometimes without my Mac, using other computers, I need a way to carry my passwords with me)

What I did was copy the keychain from the directory listed above. I renamed the login.keychain to login.keychain.old then copied my old keychain from the same directory to the new directory and opened keychain and there was all my data.
