Pdf showing as picture

Are they one-page pdf's? If yes, do a search on problems opening pdf's. I recall that there is problem with the iPad treating one-page pdf's as images and the prior posts may include how to solve the issue.

I am having the same problem. I spent a long time with apple support and did not get a resolution. I even did a restore to factory settings and same problem. When I first view the email, I can see the attachment, but within a few seconds, it changes into a graphic.

This appears to be just how the OS is set up on the iPad. Multipage PDFs will show as attachments in mail and then can be read with the built in PDF reader or copied to a PDF reader like SimplyPDF or GoodReader. Single page PDFs will display in the body of the message. If you touch and hold it with your finger, you have the option to save it as a JPEG. For some this option is usable. In all instances I can read the PDF and forward it so it seems that the only function lost is being able to save it to the app of my choice. You can also copy and paste a single page PDF into a Pages document.

If the single PDF is transferred through a cable sync to a reader app, then all is fine for reading.

I am having the same problem with multi-page pdfs. When I receive a multi-page pdf, it displays only the first page and again as a picture. Only "Save Image" and "copy" can be done.

Multipage PDFs are a different issue. When you receive one you should see an icon. It may be grayed since the big ones can take a while to load. Once loaded it should open in the built in reader. You should be able to drag the page up to scroll through it.

some of the pdf problems have been associated with the Stanza app, which appears to conflict with the mail app; uninstalling Stanza seems to fix it.

Yes, Stanza has turned out to be my problem. I uninstalled it. That has fixed my problem with both one page and multi-page pdfs.

Thanks! Deleted Stanza and now Multi-page PDFs are working again. Still no go on one page PDFs but they're not as crucial to me.

It is unbelievable that such kind of error can occur!

First the problem in such a simple thing like treating the PDFs correctly, second that an app can effect the apple mail!
I thought something is impossible on iPad/iPhone!

Is apple aware of the problem?

I have iPad and iPhone 3GS both had stanza and deleted off both. I still have trouble with multipage PDFs. I also deleted other apps like Photoshop Mobile, How It Works, London Evening Standard, Kindle as I wondered if they might affect it.

It has made no difference on either device. I don't mind one page PDFs showing as an image but I get multipage PDFs everyday.

I have same problem with one page PDF, plus when I test sending multi-page PDF as attachment, only page one shows in mail message as image, not as an attachment icon. I was trying to email some PDFs to load in iBooks, must use iTunes instead.

One other thing. Works as advertised on iPhone 3GS with iOS 4, but not on iPad 3G
