Voice Recording Plays Back in Slow Motion

I've run the software update. I never tried using GarageBand before, but yesterday I was testing out the voice recording and the strangest thing happened. My recordings seem to play back in slooooow mooootion... and my voice sounds incredibly deep. Also, the recording stays at whatever length in seconds I recorded for, so because my voice is twice as slow the second half of the recording isn't there. What is going on?

I checked the forums here and couldn't find someone with the same problem. I looked for video tutorials on YouTube. The only difference between what I was doing and what the guys on YouTube did is this: They chose Podcast where I chose Voice when making a new project.

I decided to try Podcast instead of Voice, and sure enough it worked great! I spoke into the built-in mic, played it back, and it sounded just like me at normal speed. I figured that was the problem. I now think that is not the actual problem.

Today I am recording again. It does not matter if I choose Voice or Podcast, the recording plays back in slooooow mooootion... again. This is so frustrating! I must be doing something wrong. I've never opened GarageBand before so I don't think I messed with any settings.

Have any of you ever seen this issue before? Any suggestions at all would be greatly appreciated. I want to audition for a part in a new web cartoon, but I need a reliable solution for recording my voice. Thank you all so much for any help you can provide!
