Want to disable wake on USB keyboard

Hello. My iMac 27 with Snow Leopard currently wakes on my iMac USB extended keyboard. Is there any way to turn this feature off?

I have searched in the internet extensively to try to solve this, and no luck.

I have a cat who likes to type on the keyboard and wake the computer up, and I hate when that happens. She can't click the mouse yet, but she's learning fast.

Can anyone help?

I thought about that, and that would definitely solve the problem. It's a bit of a clunky solution for such an elegant machine. I'd have a software solution, if anyone has one.

I hate to say it, but in Windows I can do this. I just go into the preferences for the device (keyboard in this case), and uncheck the "allow this device to wake from sleep" button. Right now, I have bootcamp running with Win XP, and I leave my iMac in Windows XP mode just so the keyboard and mouse don't wake the computer up.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks for the suggestion, but our cat likes to walk on keyboards, so she would still depress a key even if the keyboard is in the inverted position. One thing I considered was sliding the keyboard under the screen when done with it, thus blocking her from walking on it. Again I would prefer a more elegant solution.

It looks like I've had 2 responses from knowledgeable people (based on profile), and I guess the answer to my question is that it is not possible right now to accomplish this via software.

Any other takers?

Hi,

this "problem" is driving me nuts as well. Sometimes I forget unplugging my USB hub BEFORE setting the MacBook into sleep mode - it will thus wake up automagically again. Waiting for it to actually wake up and setting it to sleep again is pretty annoying, as this procedure may take up to 5 minutes.

Either way, searching with Google revealed, that a lot of people would like to disable wake on USB, or at least wake on USB, iff USB is used as power source only (the whole iPod debate.)

Also, people try to suggest, that this is a hardware or OS limition, as OS X has to process events happened on the USB bus and thus the behavior is perfectly normal. I am sick of reading those comments, as re-checking the bus for added/removed devices can actually very well be done after waking up again.

Windows, despite being a PITA most of the time for other reasons, at least gets this right.

However, when thinking of how Apple handles User feature requests... this "functionality" may most probably never come, so I'd rather give up on this.

Best regards,

Mihai
