gconsync

Does anyone know why gconsync wants to use my keychain maybe 4 times a day???
Searched the term everywhere. Seems it's a part of iTunes, but can't find anything more.

Thanks so much, Tom

Thanks went there and saw that page, but I didn't find any info anywhere that said what it was or did.
There's a site www.mahalo.com/.../i-want-to-get-rid-of-gconsync-popup-for-password- every-now-and-then-on-my-mac-any-idea-how-to-do-that

but they want you to join them blah, blah, blah
I'd just like to know how and why this window pops up all the time, yet I can't find it in any of my apps or system files by a search; so now I'm curious

I think it is google contact sync. I too got the messages after the first time I synced my google contacts with my iphone. It kept asking me periodically for my password for keychain.

It is found in:

/System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/GoogleContactSync.framework/Versions/Current/R esource

The command line switches appear to be:

"usage: ./gconsync [--sync clientID] [--register [0|1]] [--username foo@bar.com] [--password pw] [--syncmode fast|slow|refresh|pullthetruth] [--entitynames en1,en2,en3] [--report 0|1 [--reportusesstdout 0|1]] [--httplog 0|1]"

It appears to run periodically in the background to keep your Google contacts in sync with your Address book on the Mac.

To stop it from asking me for my password to key chain over and over, I opened Address book on the Mac, went to preferences then clicked accounts, and unchecked the "sync with Google contacts" checkbox.

This seems to have worked as I have not been prompted again for several hours.

There may be a way to keep it running without having it ask you for the keychain password over and over but I'm not a keychain expert.

Cheers...

Walter

This is Google Contact Sync. It will come up if you lock your keychain automatically. Had the same problem a few months ago, the answer seems to have dropped off Google search. To Fix, open a terminal window and enter the following at the prompt all on one line, replace <seconds> with the number of seconds you want to go between attempts. For example, to wait 24 hours type 86400. This line is case sensitive obviously since it's UNIX. If you ever change your Google contact sync settings in iTunes or Address Book you will probably have to do this command again, so save it somewhere on your machine for later use.

defaults write ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.google.GoogleContactSyncAgent StartInterval -int <seconds>

So for example:

defaults write ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.google.GoogleContactSyncAgent StartInterval -int 86400

will change it to 24 hours. You will not get a confirmation after you hit enter and it was accepted, you'll just get another prompt. Go ahead and close Terminal if you're done.

Good luck!

Thanks, Loungefly, so much! The gconsync issue is still alive and kicking.

I suspect that it raised its ugly head after updating Entourage. Up to then, I hadn't experienced it. But, then again, it was only recently that I hooked up Gmail to sync up a very nicely, Google-cleaned address list.

Looked high and low and stumbled onto your fix. I now look contentedly at my sync circle as it just sits there and does nothing until the 86401st second!! ; ) It had quadruplicated my contact list before I adjusted it with your prescription and took my backup copy and replicated it around (e.g. MobileMe, Gmail, and Addressbook).

Don't know if that will happen again, but I think it has been contained.

I'm not sure if this is still an issue, but I solved it by just delting the whole "login" keychain. I was re-prompted for all my passwords again for any application which required a password. I input them, hit save; and problom was solved.

I just ran into this issue. It started once I locked my login using the Keychain Access App.

To fix the problem,

1) I opened up the "Keychain Access App"

2) In the upper left corner there is a region called "Keychains" click on the login, keychain.

3) There is a lock icon above the "Keychains" region, make sure it is unlocked (you can do this by clicking on it and entering your password)

User uploaded file

4) This enabled me to

a) remove the annoying gconsync messages,

b) keep my google contacts sync interval (which I actually like and want to be frequent), and

c) not have to delete my login keychain

Hope this helps someone else!
