Cost of display clamshell $1000?? As per Apple India...

My display started acting up about a month back. Anything black on the screen was replaced by vertical red lines. If the entire screen is black, one can only see red lines!! I gave it an authorized apple service center and they asked me to get the display clam-shell replaced for Rs. 50,000 (abt $1000). I might as well buy a new laptop!! My extended warranty too expired some months back. I already have put in about Rs. 1,40,000 on this laptop including the extended warranty!

Has anyone changed their display clamshell and at what price?

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.3), 2006 model

Country you live in.......
State you live in........
City you live in........
Taxes........
Labor cost.......
Apple's forums are international. Therefore prices will vary. Your best bet when seeking prices, is to call around the various AASP's in your local or use Google to search for online part vendors.

MBP do not have "clam-shells." At least no part of my MBP looks like a clam. ; So if you mean the back casing that the display is attached to & you want to fix it yourself & the above Article does not pertain to your model MBP, check out the following:

Hey.. thanks for the info.. The AASP here in Bangalore, India mentioned it as "display calmshell"!! And on the pricing I am just trying to get an estimate no matter which part of the world it is from.. Wondering if Apple charges almost 50% of the laptop's cost for the display alone?? Will check out the tutorials though, only issue could be that I might not get spares in the local market..
