Re-Pairing Wireless Keyboard at Login Screen

I have my iMac configured to require entering UserID and password for access. The batteries in my wireless keyboard died, so I replaced them. Now, as I try to use my iMac, I get the security login window. UserID is pre-populated, but I can't enter my password because my keyboard isn't re-pairing post-battery replacement. I get green lights flashing on my keyboard, but no luck in terms of repairing. I've tried powering down the computer, but no luck.

Any advice?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.3)

I had this problem and had to use a USB keyboard which I had hanging around from my PC days. It worked fine and I was able to put in my password. Hope this is a help.

Welcome to Apple discussions.

Is your mouse working? If you can get by the security window, go to system preferences>accounts>log in options and set it to log in automatically. Then delete the KB from system preferences>bluetooth. Hopefully it will try to connect upon restart.

The mouse is working, but I do not know how to get beyond the security window; I guess I should have characterized that as the issue I need help solving.

How do you get beyond the security window when you don't have an active keyboard?

Hi again:

Are you able to boot from your software install DVD? I am fishing for a solution, but that might help. If you are able, perhaps my suggestion above might help.

You can also set up a soft keyboard from system preferences>language & text>input sources and then check on for KB and character viewer. I have used that when I had a KB that was giving me problems, but it may not address your issue.

P.S. I am the only user of my system, so I have it set up to automatically log on. A side benefit is that i can log on without a KB.
