AGP Graphics cards and Final Cut Pro...?

Hello everyone,

I just received a new computer today. Dual G5...It comes with the PCI Graphics Card. My old computer was a G5 as well but had a AGP Graphics Card. I reinstalled FCP4 today and tried to use it, but it says that the AGP Graphics card is missing. Do I need a AGP Graphics Card to run FCP4? And if so, why wouldn't the new computers come with one? I mean it seems silly that you can go and get a brand new G5 and FCP4 and not have it work. Anyone?

PowerMac G5 Dual, Mac OS X (10.4.2), FCP4

Not quite in the dust yet!

Just received my Quad and tried to fix the 'plist' (as per the xlr8 site) but still can't get FCP4 to start up on the new machine. It quits when loading 'Audio Filters' during startup. Could this be because I copied the application across via the Migration panel or is this a seperate problem?

Do I need to do a clean install from scratch?

Has anyone managed this fix with the new machines yet?

Any advice would be appreciated to get this going again.

Cheers

Colin

Thanks Shane,

But this ain't workin'.

I've done a clean install following the instructions at xlr8:-
- Deleted the Installation Check files
- Altered the info.plist file

But it still crashes at the Audio Filters stage of startup. I just wonder if this is something unrelated to the fix? I've installed this perfectly well on an old Dual 800 and more recently a Powerbook with no problems.

Heeeeelp!

Colin

PS - If I can't install this on the new machine, will I even be able to install the upgrade Package to v5?

The audio filter problem is unrelated to the AGP problem. I see you have Logic, do you also have some kind of audio interface - like MBOX? Can you take that out of the equation until the FCP install is working? And/or how about eliminating the Audio plugins, and see if that solves the problem. If so, add them back in a staged manner to find the culprit.

Again, none of this relates to the AGP situation...

Never copy applications via the migration process. Some vital little preference get lost in the mix.

I'm sure this may be the case sometimes, but I just wiped my startup drive, installed 10.4.3 and then had the installer import all my files and applications from an external firewire drive I had cloned from the old startup drive. So far I haven't found any application problems whatsoever. It seemed like it would be easier to do this for starters and then deal with any glitches later than reinstalling everything.

As for FCP, well I also upgraded to FCP 5 as part of this same process. I didn't try to run FCP 4.5 after the reinstall, but the FCP 5 upgrade installed without any problem. BTW, even if you do get FCP 4 onto your new G5 I think you will have some issues with QT7 and MacOS 10.4. There may be fixes for these, but in the end it makes a lot more sense to just upgrade to version 5 IMO.
