itunes could not backup the ipod because the ipod disconnected

Recently when I try to update my iPod touch (second edition) with my iTunes on a Windows XP machine I keep getting a popup window with the following message "*iTunes could not backup the iPod "+iPod name+" because the iPod disconnected*".

The iTunes is the latest version 9.1.1.12 and iPod is on the latest version of firmware 3.1.3

Anyone know of why this is happening?

Thanks

Hello ArfonD,

Try resetting your sync history.
1. Open iTunes.
2. From the Edit menu, choose Preferences.
3. Click the Devices tab.
4. Click the Reset Sync History button.

Also, remove any older backups as well to see if that helps.
