iPad behaving erratically: "ghost touching"

My 3G iPad is about a month old. When in Safari, the device will suddenly scroll around a website as if I were touching the screen (I'm not), and then will randomly open up a page as if a hyperlink had been touched. It's also done this inside of a couple of apps. I re-boot the device, the problem goes away, but then returns a day or two later. I went almost 4 weeks without a single problem, and now this stealth issue has appeared. Has anyone else experienced this?

No one would believethis but trust me...

My dad has a mini ipad ad he also had theghost screen. Erratic jumping, zooming in out - you name it.

He had metal scissors next to him and for reasons that boggles the mind, decided to pull the scissors over the screen a few times en WALLAH!

The screen is deGhosted!

Maybe a magnetic discharge...?!

hello,

=========================================================

TRY TO REPLACE IPAD POWER SUPPLY AND CABLE FIRST ⚠

=========================================================

Let me tell you my story: the ghost typing started to happen suddenly after 8 months of daily use. So I decided to have the iPad replaced and therefore I restored the iPad to the original state and uploaded new iOS (6.1.2) to it. Everything started to work normally - no ghost typing would occur. Happy again, I started to restore iPad from iCloud and because the process takes some time, I plugged iPad in the charger so it wouldn't ran out of power. BOOOM - ghost typing was back and worse than ever! Unplugged it - the problem was gone. So I replaced the power supply with another one and the host typing is fixed.

This is EXACTLY my situation. Third party lightning cable and third party power adapter. Unplug and works perfectly. Plug in and wildly erratic.

Charges OK but slowly so obviously not enough to power the iPad properly.

My ipad mini is still working reasonably well. There is still something going on with ghosting but it is much improved by doing the faced down on carpet routine. I think this is an engineering issue that Apple needs to own up to and provide relief for their customers. Anyone interested in joining a class action lawsuit?

Folks,

It's good to know I'm not alone with this terrifying ghost screen issue. I have an iPhone 6 plus and have been dealing with this for a few weeks. I tried all listed remedies thanks to so many of you from cleaning the iphone data, reset to manufacturer's original settings, reloading my apps, cleaning data content, turning off the gravity sensor, do the hokey pokey and turning myself around a dozen times, and on and on. Now, here is the real fix since I have now been trouble free for 2 weeks.

1. slightly bend the screen very carefully by grabbing the longer ends of the phone and bending every so gently. Do this until your phone behaves normally. I had to do it a few times and in between I would leave it on the table and use it until fully stable.

2. Don't use a case that grabs the sides tight and squeezes the screen. This goes for most of the hard case skins out there e.g., Joto

3. Use a case that provides support to the back of the phone and avoids unintentional bending. Even a slight bend will put you back where you started. Unfortunately once this problem is created the only way to solve it is to avoid the phone from bending. I am using a KAVAJ wallet leather case. They work well but some folks may not like the wallet look. It provides support to the back of the phone and doesn't squeeze the sides.

4. Don't every carry your phone in your back pocket. Your tush will case the phone to bend. Doesn't take much even if you have a small tush :-)

It's been a few weeks now and no ghost issues...will post if things change. I'm very careful with the phone now and avoid any stress on the screen as much as possible.

Hope this helps

iPad mini 32g w/ retina. Experiencing ghost-touch input periodically on a daily basis. Will get really bad at times and render the iPad completely unusable. Very frustrating for the price you're required to pay for these products, and also for the vast popularity of the Apple name. You would think in addition to leading the industry in sales, they would also try to lead the industry in quality. But after skimming through this vast trove of experiences similar to mine, it's even more apparent to me that Apple Inc. is only interested in the $$$. Will try fixes previously suggested, and if all else fails will replace digitizer and go from there.

Put me in as another vote for the bent phone cause. Someone else had a problem with their iPhone 6 either registering crazy keystrokes sometimes, or needing several taps to register anything at all.

Gently bending the phone body (ever so slightly) and watching the glass let me completely disable the touch screen if I bent the top and bottom toward the glass, and brought back normal, non-erratic behavior when I bent the phone so the glass was perfectly aligned. The bending is very subtle - I did not even feel like I was bending it, but the glass alignment showed the change.

I suspect that once a phone is bent, it we get re-bent very easily in any direction.

I have had this ghost problem for a while, but I thought it was because my iPad is an old ipad2 with ios9.

Then tonight things went really strange as it suddenly when I was checking mail, started deleting my mails. One by one, slow and steady .

Couldn't stop it but had to turn iPad off.

I have had apps launching and disappearing and keyboard going crazy etc.

Broke the front glass some time ago, years, and I have a suspicion it may not have been replaced correctly.

This happened to one of my three iPad Mini 2 Retina's.

The specific unit affected had the screen replaced a year ago, and it suddenly started to behave strangely with irregular cursor movements etc. Factory reset did not solve anything, nor did any of the suggestions such as disabling various features.

I followed the suggestion to slightly bend/press the corners and it seemed to help. No ghost touching for several days now. Likely it has something to do with the screen replacement, some problems with the connectors beneath the screen that are a bit loose and/or come in contact with other parts, causing the touch sensor to go nuts.
