In the U.S, the iPhone can be returned for payment credit within 30 days of the purchase date less a 10% restocking fee if the packaging is opened and the associated contract with AT&T can be cancelled within the same time frame without a penalty.

You need to contact your carrier or the retailer where you purchased the iPhone. Whatever is provided or not provided is up to the carrier or retailer where your iPhone was purchased, not with Apple.

Why do you think you are entitled to some money back?

If you bought a TV, Microwave, DVD Player, Computer, Wii, etc, etc yesterday and a new version came out tomorrow would you expect them all to give you some money back. Has that ever happened? No.

The sales advisor was not aware that a new phone was coming out, they are not told.

Did you do any research before you purchased?
There were plenty rumours about a new iPhone coming out in June / July.

You paid what you thought the iPhone was worth for what it did. It does no less than it did when you bought it, in fact in 2 weeks time it will do even more as you will be able to install the iOS 4 software for FREE. You will get most of the new features for FREE.

Do you think you think they should charge you for the new feature you are getting for FREE.

It is the way of life, new models of everything come out sooner or later, you let unlucky.

mate what is with the attitude???
and in the past I bought a pc and a newer model did come out and the model I bought when down in price (pc world) they gave me an option of adding the extra for the newer pc or gave me so much money back as the price as reduced within so many days of me buying it, I am not going to wait around on rumours if a phone is comin out or not, I didnt know so I thought I was going for top of the range when I havent!!

I just bought a 3GS Sunday, I had to have it prior to Monday. I made contact with my salesperson today (Tues.). He said that there would be a $19.00 restocking fee, if it has been less than 30 days from purchase. Just sign up for a new 4G on the 15th, keep your 3GS and then wait for them to call you when your 4G comes in. At that time make the switch.

There is no attitude, just reality.
If PC World have a policy to do what you say then that is great, Apple also do the same.
You have 14 days to return the device and get your money back, with a 10% deduction for restocking.
If you can do that with the iPhone then great.
The problem is the 'entitlement' attitude that you appear to have.

You got the product you wanted at the price you wanted.

On your own from now.

I bought a 3GS 16GB iPhone on Friday 4th, of June. I found out about the iPhone 4 last night. I went to the AT&T store and spoke with the salesperson. They assured me that I can come in on the 15th and pre order the iPhone 4 and be able to return the 3GS I purchased by the date the iPhone 4 is released. I am a new AT&T customer and so far I've gotten great service and could not have picked a better timing to purchase an iPhone (:
