HP PSC 2510 "All in One" prints only

When I installed 10.4, the other features of the all in one stopped working. For months I have been struggling with HP and have been told several times that new sortware was on the way. I recently installed their Image Zone software and it looks hopefull; however it also will not communicate with the device. So as of now, I have an All in One that is a One in One - has anyone had any luck getting their all in one device to do anything other than print?

HP's software stinks.

What was the error message you got with the 2510 when you tried to scan? Can you use it as a photocopy device? If you can, then the scanner section is working, and Vuescan <http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/4763> might allow you to scan into the Mac. If the scanner section's not working, take the machine in for repair/replacement.

I made the mistake of downloading and installing the latest version of HP software for the 2510, after upgrading to Tiger (10.4.3). It has taken me a month to clean up the damage.

I use the HP psc 2510 wirelessly in ad hoc mode, and I frequently make photocopies, scan, and fax, and everything seems to be going fine. I use phone line faxing locally, and use document scanning and email for some distance work.

I uninstalled HP 7.3.1, used Spotlight to locate any file related to the software and sent it all to the trash -- preferences and other hd/Library files. HP has a discussion topic specifically about this, so please check this before dragging anything to the trash:

Do lots of browsing on HP for information about uninstalling, dragging files to the trash, and repairing permissions; prepare to do many restarts and permissions repairs -- heavy sigh. You have to spend a LOT of time for this uninstall. Be prepared. I wish I could be repaid by the hour by HP for all the time I've given to this problem.

Apple saves the day:

Finally, after uninstalling, I found I could configure everything: printing, faxing, scanning, and copying within Tiger. Wireless success happened through Bonjour, by locating the web page for configuring the HP psc 2510, using the IP address of the 2510. This got me to info, more than I understand, but enough to get up and running for all of my needs. Someone with more expertise might be able to jump in and elaborate. I've been muddling through and lost the thread in the maze a while ago.

I don't know why HP does not support Mac better. Don't bother trying to chat from their support web site. They only support Windows there. You have to call a person in the Mountain time zone, 8 am - 10 pm.

I mostly wanted to say that there might be all you need within Tiger to get the 2510 going, but you have to be sure you remove all conflicting files from any HP software you may have installed because you simply followed the directions.

Peace,
Anne

I was able to delete the old software and reinstall the new version, which includes HP Image Zone (this took a little time and a long set of instructions from HP Support - if anyone would like them, send me a note and I will forward along). The printer, scanner and the wireless link all work much better now (they work and are very reliable - even before upgrading to Tiger I was having communication issues which now seem to be gone.

That is the good news, now for the bad. The install program never finishes running and so every time the computer reboots it asks if I want to complete set up. It never finishes the last step, yet everything works. So at this point when I boot up I just hit the QUIT option on the HP dialog box. I think there is a fix for this, but I have yet to research it. I also just noticed that PhotoShop Elements 3.0 no longer works, and can only assume that the HP Image Zone has messed with it in some way.

Hi everyone!

I have just upgraded my iMac to Tiger (and subsequently 10.4.3)... and suddenly I couldn't do anything with my psc 2510.

I tried downloading the latest drivers and software from hp, and installed it all, but it still didn't work, and when the "HP Printer Setup Utility" got to its last stage, it would beachball on me. That meant it was left with unfinished business, and returned to haunt me every time I rebooted my mac. Nightmare. And my psc still didn't work. (Ironically, I used the same software in the end - see below - so it must have been the order I did things that mattered)

Then I found this thread and I saw light at the end of the tunnel! Thanks!

Basically, I...
• deleted all of the files described in this hp document - http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?lc=en&cc=us&docname=c00441859&produc t=303770&dlc=en〈=en
• installed the "Printing Only" psc installer from hp - http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?dlc=en&lc=en&os=219&pro duct=303770&lang=en&cc=uk&softwareitem=mp-35188-1
• set up my psc using Tiger's "Printer Setup Utility", by clicking "Add" in the toolbar, then selecting my psc in the window that appears (ah the wonders of Bonjour!). Because I'd just intalled the "Printing Only" driver, it used that, which is fine. Then I clicked "Add" and my psc was set up for printing

But I wanted more than printing! As do you, Chowser. So, then I...
• downloaded the hp "All In One Installer" from here - http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?dlc=en&lc=en&os=219&pro duct=303770&lang=en&cc=uk&softwareitem=mp-32709-1
• ran the installer. Now, I know you probably won't have much faith in this working, but trust me, it does. Or it did for me anyway.
• once the new drivers and "Image Zone" software were installed, the HP Printer Setup Utility opened up.
• so, I went through the steps for setting up my printer. I got to the last step, and normally when I tried this before, the utility would crash after I clicked the "Next" button. BUT, for some reason, it all worked. My printer was fully set up! And, better still, because the utility has done its work, it doesn't start up every time I reboot.

So, now my psc works again. Hoorah! I just hope that it'll work for you guys too. Just give it a try - following my steps exactly... if it worked for me, then it should work for you too, right?

So give it a try, and I wish you all the very best of luck in getting it to work... Come back and tell us if you solve it!

Happy New Year!
