which TomTom forum? do you mean on the TomTom website? I couldn't see a forum, just support and FAQ's. But the iPhone 4 is brand new; TomTom won't have updated their website yet..

or do you mean this site (Apple>Support>Discussions) - is there a TomTom forum here? I couldn't see one, and using iPhone>Basics seemed appropriate enough...

anyway, regardless of where I posted the question, does anyone know the answer?!

My guess is that the iphone 4 will fit the tomtom mount perfectly. This is only my guess but I would be very surprised if it doesn't fit. Just note how the phone fits in the mount. The problem would be if the 4g was a different height to 3g/s but its exactly the same. If the 4G was a fatter phone then this also would be a problem but it thinner.

Personally, I say, don't worry.

This is the response I got from mail support today:

The TomTom car kit is currently available only for the normal iPhone, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3G S. As iPhone 4G is a newer product from Apple, it has not been tested for the TomTom car kit. Hence we regret that we will not be able to comment on its compatibility with iPhone 4G as of now. However, we are getting a lot of requests from customers regarding the same query and we are in a process to release a iPhone 4G compatible version of TomTom car kit soon. Also, I have forwarded your feedback to our Product Development Team for further review. We take all customer feedback received very seriously in the future development of our products. Suggestions are gathered and organized to understand the areas our customers are most interested in enhancing.

What? Are you saying the GPS chip in the car kit works by physically touching the phone? That doesn't even make sense, bro. Everything runs through the proprietary port you plug in to your phone. Open the car kit app. Status says NOT DOCKED or DOCKED. Hold the phone against the car kit; you won't get a GPS lock. Now dock it...GPS lock.

Or are you just saying you are concerned the phone won't fit as snugly period (disregarding operating)?

My concern is that a) the amplifier chip won't work with the iPhone 4 when docked and b) we'll get that 'incompatible' popup every time we dock the phone...possibly with audio out issues.

I'm reading in a TomTom forum and it's not looking good. I haven't seen this tech spec myself, but they are saying Apple put in a new GPS chipset, akin to the one in the iPad 3G. The TomTom app is not recognizing it, so they are saying it stands to reason that the new iPhone would not work with the amplifier in the car kit.

The logic is a little off there because I think it almost (or does) compares two different situations (software vs. hardware). But if the current car kit doesn't work, TomTom better offer serious discounts to current owners...their car kit would be obsolete and not even a year old.
