Qmaster not using all cores for Compressor

I have an 8-core Intel MacPro with a virtual cluster set through Qmaster to use 4 cores for Compressor processing. However, when I submit a Compressor batch, Qmaster only uses one core. Changing the settings from 1 core to 8 produces the same results. Anyone know what's going on here?

I realize this is an old thread, but a couple of thoughts come to mind ...

What settings are you using to encode to? h.264? Some formats don't allow job segmenting.

Clustering will not work when exporting directly out of FCP. Forum contributor, Jon Chapell explains it best in this thread: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=8834921&#8834921

Taking discussions offline without providing solutions kind of defeats the purpose of the forum.

No solutions were made..(he never contacted) and if we had made discoveries, *we would have posted them.*
Support while looking directly at the problem instead of "describe what it's doing, give me all your settings, post logs" and 5 months later find out it was something completely outside of parameters described and could be seen immediately when remote connecting; I'd say out-of-forum help definitely makes the process much faster and reliable and quite honestly enjoyable for everybody involved.
sorry for being a little irritated with your remark, we all (should) know how forums work, and what their purpose is. My apologies

K thanks

My apologies for sounding rude. It's not very often around here that someone actually follows up with a solution. Usually threads will close with "found the problem, thanks!" if they close at all. I agree that direct connection to a problematic system is preferred over a forum based conversation.

It would be nice to see you around here more often, as it seems you are quite well-versed with clustering and such.

I'm a bit late to this discussion, but if anyone can help me...

I have the academic version of Final Cut Studio, and I'm trying to get Qmaster to utilize all my cores. However, the screen where I choose the number of instances is different from all the tutorial videos that I've seen. I'm wondering if having the academic version is not allowing me to utilize all my cores.

Instead of having a drop down menu where I can select the number of instances (1-8), after I click on "Options for selected service..." I get a new window that says, "List of Service Instances of Extended Nodes," a "+" and "-" button, and then a list that have 3 columns (Host name, Username, Password). Under Host name, it says, "This Computer" 8x.

I've done everything else I can think of to fix this problem to no avail. Help!
