How to play DVDs in iTunes

Hi i have a simple question for you all and one which i would appreciate an answer to. Basically i was wondering how you play DVDs through iTunes. I thought it would be a simple process of just putting your DVD into the DVD drive of the computer, opening iTunes and then double clicking on the DVD under devices. However, it seems that the DVD does not appear under the Devices section of iTunes which makes me wonder if it is even possible to play DVDs through iTunes. Any help on this would be very useful and if this cant be done then what other programs can i use to play my DVDs on my computer?

By the way i am running the latest version of iTunes on windows if that helps.

iTunes cannot play (video) DVDs, it can play MP3 tracks stored on a data format DVD.

You can use Windows Media Player if you have MPEG2 support (standard in Windows7), or download the free VLC application, or if using an earlier version of Windows buy a suitable program, e.g. PowerPlay.
