Transfer photos from iPod Classic to iPhoto

We had some kind of malfunction and lost our iPhoto library (just gone...assuming one of the kids accidentally did it). Anyway, we had the entire library backed up on our iPod Classic. I have tried everything I can think of to import it back to iPhoto...but am not having any luck. I keep getting an error indicating that ...Photos/Photos/Photo Database is an unrecognizable format. The iPod does not appear in the iPhoto list of devices. And, iTunes will only allow me to copy images TO the iPod.

Any assistance would be appreciated...

The transfer of photos is only one way, from your computer to the iPod. During the transfer iTunes will "optimise" the photos to create, small TV quality versions of the photos to the iPod for you to view so any of these you manage to recover will not be the same quality as the original. If you had your iPod to add full resolution copies of the photos onto the iPod as well as the optimised versions have a look here: Apple Knowledge Base article - Use Disk Mode to copy photos from iPod

If you only have optimised versions there are a few programs out there for recovering those from an iPod, have a look at the ones below. If you search the internet you can find more:

I have a similar issue, but different question. I think I've lost my iPhoto Library and am in the process of recovering. My ipod was used for full backup of photos as well, but it has bumped pictures off every time I add music. My question is this: I want to connect my iPod to upload some more music, but will all the photos be erased as soon as I connect since the iPhoto Library is not there, or will it just say "can't sync photos" and save the pics I had?
