virus barrier eating up all my memory!

I have Virus Barier X5 from Intego. Just looked at system monitor under real memory...it has over 8 listings...and eating up nearly 500mg memory!
Does anyone know anything about this?? A search on google had similar questions without answers. I emailed intego, no response.

Virus Barrier has a very bad rep on these forums. Check out my [Mac Virus guide|http://www.reedcorner.net/thomas/guides/macvirus> and decide whether you really need to be running AV software, then try something with a better rep. I've heard good things here about Sophos, but have no experience with it. MacScan and iAntivirus are also smaller and less intrusive, I believe. And [clamXav|http://www.clamxav.com> is free, but I'm unsure about how complete its support for Mac malware is.

VirusBarrier X6 is a still a problem by using all available memory when copying files or using Backup. Using Activity Monitor, I see it using over 2.5G of live memory and hard disk space is disappearing even though the copy/backup process is pushing files from the local computer to a network drive. It gets so bad that the seconds on the clock stop ticking at times ... up to 10 secs can go by without a change on the clock.

This has happened when scan priority is set to Low or High.

This will likely be the last time I buy this product.
