Experience: Getting an iPad in India
I'm enjoying my initial moments with my iPad so I'll keep it short for now...
A friend in Florida ordered it for me with accessories:
- iPad 3G 32GB ($729)
- Dock ($29)
- Macally Bookstand ($50)
- Griffin Stand ($42)
- Zagg ScreenShield ($31)
Shipping to India cost around $210 via UPS 'Expedited'. Took whole 5 days to reach.
The (dumb) friend declared the shipment as 'USD 1000' value so the customs duty turned out to be more than shipping at INR 16259 (approx USD 348), that is approx 26% of the total (incl shipping).
So, If you're importing to India, be ready for the surprise by the Customs Department. Some have been charged around $50 but I was charged a **** lot more. You can't do anything about it, can't argue, can't fight!
