iPad camera connect kit and iPhone 4

Will you be able to use the SD version of the iPad camera connection kit with the iPhone 4 to transfer photos to the iPhone?

TIA

It's hard to tell at this point. They haven't said anything about it working or not working.

The iPhone does not have an SD card slot, so how exactly do you propose using the iPad camera connection kit?

The Camera Connection Kit has a SD card slot. It plugs in to the 30-pin connector. SD>30-pin

Hold the phone!

iPhone 4 also appears able to support the iPad's camera connection kit, although this isn't expressly stated by Apple. The new phone specifications add support for MJPEG video compression, a very inefficient format primarily used by point-and-shoot cameras that take video and capture it as AVI files. Support for the codec is only useful for syncing with camera devices; other similarities between iPhone 4 and iPad (such as VGA out support) suggest that the camera adapter should work with the new phone as well.

Hi Bob,

Just tried hooking up my USB Apple Keyboard w/number pad… no luck either. I don't have a PC USB keyboard or USB mouse around. I then tried plugging the USB adapter in by itself with nothing plugged in it and got the same 'unsupported accessory' message. It does seem to me too that it's a power issue. Looks like we're out of luck here. Here's to hoping there will be an update to support it, but I highly doubt it.

It is disappointing as I was hoping to use the iPhone to import photo's from friend's cameras, etc. when I didn't have my iPad or computer with me. It would've been convenient, oh well...

Thanks for trying!

I have an iPad and I've been trying to find a camera connection kit. They are harder to find than an honest banker.

I was really hoping I could use it for both gizmos. Had hope when I heard that the VGA adaptor was supposed to work on both i4 and iPad.

Oh well. Maybe there will be a software update. But I doubt it too.

Thanks again!

I have both iPad Wifi 64GB and iPhone4 16GB. Apple did this one right. Just plug in the camera connector with USB to the iPad, use your 30 pin to USB iPhone4 connector, and the videos/photos on the iPhone4 show right up in the iPad, select and transfer.

This means you can record on the iPhone4, HD video, and view it on the iPad. Yes, some will grouse that the camera should be on the iPad, and one day it will be. For now, however, the two are a great duo. I'm taking them both to China, with a Blue Mikey for CD quality audio.

I wish iMovie for iPhone4 was so good. It is not, yet, not nearly. Very disappointing.
