If I drag a photo from my browser to a Finder window, it takes some time before the finder window refreshes and shows the file. Is there a keyboard shortcut to force a refresh of the Finder (similar to F5 in windows)?

Agreed. If I drag something from Safari to the desktop, it shows up immediately. There shouldn't be a delay. If there is, that suggests there's something wrong with the system. What that might be, I'm not sure... possibly hard drive problems. The OP should try to [repair the hard drive with Disk Utility|http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1417].
Close and re-open the window…
Else, use AppleScript (there is a command to do that, check the Finder dictionary from the application Script Editor).

You could try *Refresh Finder.app*, which gives you a refresh button in the Finder window's toolbar.

Hi. It happens when i am using Firefox and dragging a photo to a Finder window.
Yes moving back and forward (up and down the folder hierarchy; with a 3 finger flick on the track pad) in the Finder window makes it appear straight away. However that's only convenient if your Finder window has the history to go back and forward on.
