Blocking AdBrite Interstitial Ads

I really can't stand the interstitial ads that make the whole screen white and force you to wait a few seconds until you can click the "skip this ad" button in the top right corner. New York Times is notorious for this. Any way to block these ads?

I know on Windows you can add this to the HOSTS file and it will specifically block the interstitial ads created by the Ad-Brite company:
127.0.0.1 adbrite.com #[Ewido.TrackingCookie.Adbrite]
127.0.0.1 1.adbrite.com
127.0.0.1 2.adbrite.com #[SiteAdvisor.findwhatevernow.com]
127.0.0.1 3.adbrite.com
127.0.0.1 4.adbrite.com

Edit the file /private/etc/hosts with a tool such as TextWrangler.

Quick question cuz I'm a noob.

##
# Host Database
#
# localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
# when the system is booting. Do not change this entry.
##
127.0.0.1 localhost
255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
Do I insert my text here?
::1 localhost
or here?

Or does it matter?

What does this line mean? "::1 localhost"
