prevent itunes from creating music folder inside itunes music folder?

I'm having an issue with importing cds right now. iTunes, when I import or download music, created a new "Music" folder inside my "iTunes Music" folder. I have my artists' folders inside my "iTunes Music" folder and when I import a cd, a "Music" folder pops up in the list.

So right now, I have some music that is
username/Music/iTunes/iTunes music/Elton John
and some that is
username/Music/iTunes/iTunes music/Music/U2

My main music folder is in my home folder(along with applications, desktop, documents, etc)

Is there a way I can keep this from happening? Will I have to just move all my music to the music folder in iTunes music?

Also, while I am at it, is there a way I can keep some of music from being part of a compilation so I don't have to select the music and uncheck the compilation box? Or do I have to do that every time I want to edit it?

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.3)

iTunes 9 has an iTunes Media folder, not an iTunes Music folder.
If you had iTunes 8 and updated to iTunes 9 media folder organization, the iTunes Music folder will stay (instead of an iTunes MEdia folder) and in that is Music, Movies, Audiobooks, etc.
Seems as if it's not quite converting everything to the new order.
Will I have to just move all my music to the music folder in iTunes music?

Don't move anything yourself or iTunes will lose it.
Go to iTunes menu File -> Library -> Organize library, tick Consolidate then OK.

Before you import the CD, select the CD, right click - get info and uncheck Part of compilation, then Import.

???
Once you uncheck *Part of compilation*, it will stay unchecked. You can edit the songs if this is checked or unchecked.

Chris CA, thanks for the suggestion, as I have the same problem.

I clicked Library > Organize Library. The dialog had "Upgrade to iTunes Media organization" greyed out, saying my drive is already organized as iTunes Media. So I clicked "Consolidate." It said I don't have enough room to place copy all the files onto this drive. Odd. My entire iTunes folder is 21GB, and I have 62GB available on my internal drive.

iTunes somehow didn't quite fully "organize" my files into the "Media" format (which I didn't see as necessary anyhow).

I wonder if I (and the OP) should just manually rename "iTunes Music Folder" as "iTunes Media Folder," move all the music folders into its nested Music folder, and rebuild my directory. Yay? Nay?

Thanks,
c
