Canon Legria FS306: Possible to Import Directly From Camera ?

Hi,

I have just recently purchased a Canon Legria FS306 flash memory video camera.
Is it possible to import directly from this device in to FCE (4.0.1) ?

The only method I have found is to use iMovie to import from the FS306 and then 'Share ->Export Using QT' as a .DV which I then import into FCE

If Possible, I wish to avoid the use of iMove altogether.

Thanks and regards
Richard

Hi(Bonjour)!

FCE can only capture/ingest specific video formats (MiniDV NTSC-PAL, HDV and AVCHD). Other foreigh format have to be converted to one of those codecs.
I don't know the exact format used by this flash camera.

Material from many new flash or hard drive based small cameras can be used if you convert the original files with MPEG Streamblip utility (free):

Search the forum with MPEG Streamclip keywords.

Bonjour Michel,

Thank you for your prompt reply.
Rather daft of me not to included the most important piece of information - the file format on the FS306 !!

The files have an extension of .MOD which, with the help of Auntie Google, I understand to be " MPEG-2 program stream container files with MOD extension" which might explain why Streamclip does not play them.

Am I correct in thinking that I would have to purchase the MPEG-2 QT plugin to then use Streamclip ?

Kind regards
Richard
