No Airport activity on wake from sleep (but only when opening the lid)

I've read a lot of discussions dealing with wi-fi issues, but none seems to match my own problem.

I purchased a MBP 13" 2.4 GHz mid 2010 a few weeks ago and I'm running SL 10.6.3. I connect to the internet via a Time Capsule ethernet connected to a D-Link DSL 300T modem. Everything is updated and running smooth, but on wake from sleep opening the lid there's no way to get Airport working. Most of the times it's inactive, but I can not activate it in System Prefs > Network. Sometimes shows up as active, the Airport icon in menu bar keeps blinking but can't connect to the Time Capsule (whose light stays green all the time). The only way to get it back to work is restarting the MBP. This does never happen if I don't close the lid, though putting my Mac to sleep: on waking Airport works fine.

I'm enclosing the Console log:

I hope this may get fixed with a software/firmware update, but I'm wondering whether it's a forecast of future hardware failures.

Thanks in advance.

I bought my MBP 13" and within 10 days had a broken Airport Card. Its fixed and everything works fine now, however it still shuts off when the lid's been closed and it goes to sleep. When I re-open the lid I also have no luck turning on the Airport Card, but just re-start and everything is fine. I also find that if the lid stays open it will stay connected all day...

I see this as more of an annoyance than a problem, but given my Airport Card has been replaced and otherwise working fine I don't suspect its a sign of a hardware problem. I'm hoping a software update fixes it in the near future.

Thank you ajw309, now I know I'm not the only one. I searched extensively before posting and was concerned as I didn't manage to find someone having my same problem. My Time Capsule too is constantly green but, BTW, is awfully prone to lose internet configuration.

According to rumors about 10.6.4, next system update isn't likely to solve such an issue. Let's hope. Thanks again.

Hi,

my MBP 13" Mid 2010 running 10.6.4. has similar problems. I like to use it closed lid connected to an external display with apple usb keyboard. In closed lid mode airport connection fails several times or I do get a poor connection, e.g. one or two curves in the airport menu bar icon with significant lower connection speeds. I do connect to a airport extreme n station with does its job rock solid. as my wife uses a two year old macbook and I have got an G4 with a sonnet airport card running both without problems even from a greater distance in our home it seems to me that the macbook pro has serious problems operating with the internal wifi antenna in closed lid mode, maybe due to shielding from the lid?

Has anybody experienced the same problem or successfully found a way to solve this problem? When using open lid mode wifi problems never occurred, but that's not the preferred option for my desktop table.

No Airport activity on wake from sleep (but only when opening the lid)
