If you look, you will see that the OP (original poster, because you might not know what the initials stand for) has 10.6.3 as his OS, which, you might or might not know, is Snow Leopard. Tiger has nothing to do in any way whatsoever to his problem. You might want to know that Tiger is OS 4.x.x

It would be good and helpful to others if you actually gave relevant responses and were not so quick to chime in without really knowing how to solve the problem or even understanding it.

Please take this as constructive criticism, these boards are here to provide solutions to questions, not just to see our names in print or give solutions that can really be dangerous.

It is not a competition to see who can offer the best advice, it is the desire of responders to offer advice that is helpful and pertinent to the problem presented. I am glad that your problem corrected itself but puzzled by your insistence that

No one is insisting on getting credit, but it is helpful to others with a similar problem to know what the solution was. If your problem corrected itself and you know how, please let us know. If no one solved your problem, then don't award any solved points, as this will only serve to confuse others.

Most likely the original file you were trying to open was partially corrupt, had a bad resource fork,
or the wrong extension (was actually some other format than zip).

Since you say you downloaded it, it was most likely obtained an error during the download process.
