iPhone 3G won't sync photos to Windows XP

I cannot sync photos from my iPhone to my PC.

I may have accidentally moved my "iPhone pics" folder or a file in it. If I did, what can I do to undo the damage?

I have 73 photos on my iPhone in my "camera roll" (I know, I'm taking *a lot* of pictures). I have no other photos or albums on my phone.

I can sync some data from my iPhone to my PC. For instance, I can sync my "Notes" off my iPhone to the "Notes" in Outlook.

I cannot sync photos. Very frustrating.

FYI, when my iPhone is attached to the computer w the USB cable and I go to "My Computer" in Windows Explorer, my PC does NOT recognize the iPhone. However, iTunes DOES recognize my iPhone.

iPhone:
- 3G
- 16 GB
- v 3.1.2 (the latest is 3.1.3)

PC:
- IBM ThinkPad
- 1/2 GB RAM, 32 GB hard drive (I know, I'm ahead of the curve w this hardware config)
- Windows XP SP 3

iTunes:
- v 3.1.2 (the latest is 3.1.3)

Any thoughts as to what to do so that the photos will sync using iTunes?

Photos in the Camera Roll are not included with the iTunes sync process except for being included with your iPhone's backup, which is updated by iTunes as the first step during the iTunes sync process.

iTunes handles the transfer of photos from your computer to your iPhone which is selected under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, but this is a one way transfer process only - from your computer to your iPhone.

You can import photos from your iPhone's Camera Roll as with any other digital camera. When your iPhone includes photos in the Camera Roll, it should also be detected as a digital camera when connected to your computer.

Have you tried using the Windows Scanner & Camera Wizard when your iPhone is connected?

The iPhone is two devices, the phone/iPod which syncs through iTunes, and a separate digital camera, which will appear under My Computer and, if you have the Camera and Scanner Wizard app defined, in your photo app. If the Camera Roll is not appearing in either place this means that there is a corrupt image file in the Camera Roll. Usually this is a photo that arrived in a web page, email or MMS. If you have any such images, email them to yourself and then delete them from the Camera Roll. This should fix the problem.
