I just did the same - reset pram, then changed Energy Saver settings.

Aperture now running with 1 Gb free memory... better than 200 Mb before.

Will have to see if this lasts. I am now running only FireFox and have only 1.8 Gb free.

I have two 2.4Ghz I5 Macbook pro's. They are both flaky I have tried different ram and hard drives. No luck. My old Macbook Pro 2Ghz blows it away. Vmware Fusion is basically unusable. Did anyone call apple to see if there is officially a recall on specific serial numbers, like they have done in the past with batteries?

    Thanks
    Thom

So is this a dead issue now. The 2.4 I5 laptop is just slow and we should just get used to it?

No answers. I went to 8gb ram, but still see spinning wheel occasionally.

After repairing disk permissions, I did see some improvement.

I put a SSD in mine, Runs like id expect it to / how devices with normal HDDs work.
Although opening many apps at once is obviously better on this.

Ram usage is still abnormally high.

Same here, mid '10 core i5, ssd ocz vertex 2 and after 2 days of not restarting it it becomes very slughish, sometimes even freezes and only force shutdown solves the problem, cpu at low usage, memory at 90% usage, my old MBP 3.1 was way faster than this one..

I feel the same the first time i used my mac.
My core 2-duo have some problems, i made a list of videos and text to go to apple store and reclame. Before doing that i let a cup of milk throw wy mac. Instead of problems i realy loved mac and became an user. i buyed onother. if i new what was comming ill never say bad thungs about the other.
my core i5 seems to work just much worse, crashes more, more slowly..i cant even put an tiff image in my archicad, it says have no memory!a few days my drive just stop working...i always say and ppl laugh at me"my core 2-duo was just much more better than this ****"...i dont understand..sometimes i wonder if that thing of virtual processors arent just a marketing lie
the worst thing is that my mom just used the guaranty to buy a thing because it have money in it because of a promotion and she lost the papper....i lost my guaranty and the insurance....and my mack have a small damage =S
Finally i see ppl that agree with me..core 2-duo was a machine....im so sad about this new macs

I found it I restart my computer it free's up a lot of memory.  I started using this little app that shows my ram.   This is just with chrome (this page) and mail open. Should have much more memory. My computer started running way better with 100 gb free on HD. Screen shot 2012-01-08 at 3.56.25 PM.png

    Hi Nick,

I have a 2.3ghz i5 MBP 13", and it always seems to be hogging ram and slowing down. I went in to my local Apple store, and Safari was hogging a WHOLE lot of ram (most of my 4 gigs) — they said to clear out the cache and start over, but even at the store it started to hog ram again. I now use Firefox, though its ram usage is still high.

Overall though, I have noticed that this computer is not as fast as one might think it should be. Anecdotal evidence, but I don't see much difference from this and older macbook Core 2 duos.

How did they finally determine it was your logic board? I still have a couple months left on my warranty.

Get free memory pro from the app store.  It's helped me manage my ram tons.  Also if it gets really low and everything's closed, restart your computer.  I have to restart about once a month.  Free memory also 'free's up space'
