Dec 9, 2012 9:28 PM in response to Jeffdnjby Tinchote,Hi, would you please say what "turning off Safari iCould syncing" means concretely? I don't see any option in my settings that even remotely resembles that.

Dec 9, 2012 9:40 PM in response to Tinchoteby bre bro,I went to the SETTINGS app and chose the iCLOUD settings on the left column and moved the switch for Safari (amongst the other switches on the right hand column that start with MAIL and CONTACTS, etc.) from ON to OFF, but even after doing so, I am still having unexpected creashes in Safari, so it didn't work for me, if that is indeed the steps we are supposed to take to alleviate this problem.

Dec 9, 2012 9:54 PM in response to bre broby Tinchote,Thanks a lot. I was hoping that there was some other setting that I was missing. In my iPad the setting you mention has been always off. Still Safari crashes lots of times per day, every day.

Dec 10, 2012 6:23 AM in response to Tinchoteby Suissejas,The Safari setting does nothing for me either - crashes happen either way..why oh why does Apple not acknowledge there may be a problem with 6.0.1 ??? I know the answer but I like to vent !!!!!

Dec 10, 2012 6:26 AM in response to Tinchoteby FedericoS,I did not have any Safari crashing problems (for years) until four days ago.
It happened for the first time when I tried posting a comment in an article that uses a discussion board system called Disqus. It is JavaScript based.
Since then, I started getting the same scenarios everybody is describing here. It did not matter if the site had JavaScript on it of not.
I disabled JavaScript and it got solved (so far).
I'm hoping this gives any clues whatsoever to the smart people in this forum.
I know this solution has come up in this forum before but the difference is that I know exactly how and when my problem began.

Dec 10, 2012 8:11 AM in response to buhyabumby buhyabum,I take the above comment back. iPad users should be able to utilize the native Safari browser without major difficulties. (Also, my recent experience has shown me that Chrome has its own issues.)

My first generation iPad suffers crashes of Safari and many apps many times each day. So often that I use it less and less. This experience dampens my enthusiasm for purchasing a newer model.
If I could downgrade to a stable version of iOS (for the old iPad) I would much more likely to buy a new one. Why? I can give the old one to a family member secure in the knowledge the device is in good shape.

Dec 10, 2012 11:44 PM in response to Mophillyby Suissejas,Mophilly - I know the feeling!! Did these crashes happen before 6.01 ? My feeling is that the upgrade is very very suspect.

Dec 14, 2012 11:55 PM in response to Suissejasby Gerson Lichtenberg,My iPad 1, 3G, 32 Gb has always had some Safari crashes. I have never exactly determined a pattern, but it seems more frequent in the past week or so. I just had one article that I was reading crash several times vpbefore I finished it. I hooe that it gets solved some day, but judging by the length of this thread, I will not hold my breath.

Dec 16, 2012 5:48 PM in response to FedericoSby agentsjrc,Exactly the same issue here on an iPad3. Starting about a week ago, a dozen or so Safari crashes a day. Most recently while trying to use Disqus on Fortunes website. Definitely a serious problem with an iPad this new...

Dec 16, 2012 6:37 PM in response to agentsjrcby 16skittles,It's bizarre... I've used my iPad 2 over a year with no problems, then I can specifically say that at 1:00 on the 10th I began getting frequent app crashes and black screen of death. I restored from backup and did a full reset, but I still have the issues. Hoping safari doesn't crash and wipe this message now...

Dec 18, 2012 1:25 PM in response to Rob Bruenby JennPur,My 1st Gen iPad shuts down Safari, Facebook app, games apps, & email multiple times a day. It just shuts down, doesn't fade to black or Apple screen. It's gotten much worse in the past 2-3 weeks. iOS is 5.1.1 which is current for 1st Gen. What has happened in the past few weeks to cause this problem across all Generations & iOS??? Come on Apple, help us!

Dec 18, 2012 3:52 PM in response to JennPurby Data Wrangler,My iPad 1 with 5.1.1 now crashes hourly and worse in Safari with various web pages.
I use the System Status App (highly recommend) and it is shows numerous out of memory warnings and errors. I have also checked the Settings > General > About > Diagnostics and Usage > Diagnostic and Usage Data (requires that you check Automatically Send). All of the errors are memory related.
My assumption is that 5.5.1 and the associated Safari version take up much more memory than the 256MB RAM of the iPad can support. Also probably the reason why iOS 6 is not available or the iPad 1 ... just not enough RAM.
BUT ... Why am having more problems these past few months? Long after I upgraded to iOS 5???

Dec 18, 2012 5:30 PM in response to Data Wranglerby 16skittles,A RAM crash was my assessment as well, but you have a good point about it working fine before.
