Q: iPad Safari crashing regularly

Safari on my iPad is crashing fairly frequently; sometimes when I restart it retains the pages that were previously open, and sometimes not.

Have not yet established a pattern, but it seems prevalent on very large pages (for example pages with many images) and on pages with embedded video (particularly Flash).

Anyone else experiencing the same issue and/or have any further information? Anybody using a browser other than Safari on the iPad?

Mac OS X (10.5.1)

At last...someone from Apple Customer service !! If you have nothing to add other than unhelpful and condescending comments then turn off your email notifications to the thread.

Its a bit odd for you to say its the same people who complain when you continue to post making you "the same people"

However you appear to miss the point. If I bought my tv at a time when it was analogue its become obsolete because of a technology change NOT because the manafacturer came round and put another tuner in it. Furthermore if because of a technology change it no longer worked, I could stick a digi box on it and continue to use it.

I fully accept your arguments, you are an Apple lover and maybe fortunate enough to be able to buy the latest gadgets.

Had I bought my ipad and it turned out to be a betamax when technology took a vhs route thats the way the mop flops.

But thats not the case, had I bought my ipad and was told that in a couple of years the MANAFACTURER would do something that would cause endless problems I would not have bought it.

The point of my argument is that APPLE caused the problem when THEY updated the iOS. This in its self is not the argument, the fact that THEY caused the problem then washed their hands of it suggests it was a deliberate ploy to get people to buy the next generation.

For me it makes no difference if its ipad, android or toilet duck, if the manafacturer causes a problem by something they do, you would think they would put it right. The ipad 1 is always going to be limited as media technology advances, BUT it should still do what it did when purchased. I do NOTHING different on my ipad to what I did when purchased, same boring apps, visit the same websites, I do the samething every day, no games no new apps. Everything worked a treat and I was happy with the ipad. Then iOS 5 came along and all the documented problems millions of others are having.

So Data Wrangler - what changed? Not the way I used it, not the websites I visit, not the apps I use. The iO? So who caused the problem? APPLE

So as much as I liked the ipad to start with, am I going to trust Apple and buy the latest one, only to find in a few years they will deliberatly make it obsolete?

I think not, you would imagine that Apple would want me as a customer, want me to get an iphone, a mac etc. But for some reason they dont?

I suggest the customers they want are the "faithfull" must have the latest iphone, ipad no matter what, old gits like myself that expect gadgets to last longer than 12 months are of no interest.

Back to my whine and cheese, is there an app for that? :0)

    Suissejas, Fujifilm,

    1) I categorically DO NOT WORK FOR APPLE

    2) as I said above ...

I use my iPad 1 (with iOS 5.1.1) exclusively when not at my day job, and sometimes at my day job. I manage all of my finances and investments with it. Surf the web heavily. Monitor and respond to multiple email accounts. Write and maintain a blog. I play games - single player and multiplayer. I watch YouTube, iTunes, Netflix, and Vimeo videos, movies, and TV shows. I listen to an extensive music collection. All on my iPad 1.

    3)  I haven't bought a new iPad yet, because I can't afford one just now. I do plan to get one this fall or next spring.

My point is that I use this iPad 1 heavily and exclusively at home and occasionally at work. Other than the occasional Safari crash on very complex websites it works just fine. I am using it now. I guess it depends on point of view.

I just don't see the "obsolescence" of the iPad 1 as the reason to never buy another iPad.

So because you have no or very little problems the other million people are lying or making it up. The occasional crash would be a delight.

As for the obsolescence of the ipad 1 being a reason never to buy an ipad, thats not what anyone is saying.

The fact that apple caused the problem and refuse to aknowledge it or address it is the reason I will no longer buy apple. But then again I must be one of the millions of people who dream that I am having a problem because you don't.

Puffin browser fixed my issue. The same website (homedepot sub pages) that regularly force closes my safari browser works like a charm in puffin.   Now whether that is poor coding by home depot or by apple, I'm not sure.  But happily I have what seems a fix.

And what iOs version was installed on the replacements you got from Apple?

AS I recall it was the last of v5. I know that until I had to apply v6 I had no problems but Apple would not allow me to roll back the OS in order to prove it to them. All this can be found in my previous posts.

Ok, then it is either an iPad 2 ... It would say "iPad 2" on the back "iPad 2" = Gen2

If it says iPad on the back and it has a camera, it has to be a Gen 3. iPad with Retina Display
