I don;t really want to go into this again..(you can read my past posts if you want..) but short version - they were totally vanilla machines with no apps on them and the problem arose when the OS was upgraded to 6.0.1 - go figure !! I have been in IT for 30 years and that would tell me something but no, the robots at Apple just gave me another machine.... it's getting late here and now I am getting agitated just thinking about such crap service I have been given....I am going to have a cup of tea and a lie down !!

Sep 3, 2013 12:15 PM in response to Fujifilmby Data Wrangler,Nope not a Merchant Banker, not an Apple employee, and not a defender of Apple per se, just another voice in the wilderness with a totaly positive experience with regard to iPad. Everyone I know who has an iPad is happy with theirs. Happy enough to eventually upgrade to a new one if and when they outgrow what they have now.
At lunch with friend now who comments "anyone who actually owns an iPad knows their worth". So yeah, I am not the lone voice in the wilderness.

Sep 3, 2013 12:23 PM in response to Suissejasby Sam Katz1,Here's a unique suggestion you probably haven't thought of:
1. Download "Terra" on the appstore. This is still Safari, but will allow you to change the useragent, which is a fancy way of saying the browser that Terra identifies as. I'm wondering whether these websites (only you know what they are), deliver different content based on useragent string or mobile vs. full.
Also, the reason why Apple likely doesn't believe you is a) because they can't do anything about it, and b) because the claim that 5.0 caused the problem (earlier in this thread) and the claim that 6.0-->6.1 caused the bug are unlikely to both be true.
It's possible there's what's called a regression bug (where an update causes a bug that's already been fixed), but it's rare.
Is anyone else having the problem since upgrading from 6.0-->6.1? That specific chain of events?
Are all of your apps up to date? I generally find upgrading the apps before an OS update helps make for smooth sailing. I think I've said that before.
I did find mention of the fact that a DFU restore should allow you to downgrade if you have the OS on your computer.

Sep 9, 2013 5:17 PM in response to Rob Bruenby Johnkahala,When will apple give us a fix to this problem. Why is it taking so long.should we continue to buy apple products if they leave us in the cold like this.
-
Sep 10, 2013 1:05 AM in response to Johnkahalaby gogega,There WON'T EVER BE a fix, PERIOD. All you can do is to diable all unneeded features like the whole iCloud, automatic sync-options for E-Mail and EVER close all apps (multitasking-bar) prior surfing with the highly recommended Puffin-Browser. Don't mind the crashes on intital-starts with Puffin, the second or sometimes third start results in a stable condition.

Sep 10, 2013 7:39 AM in response to Rob Bruenby Tinchote,Here's a comparison: the much viled Microsoft launched Windows XP in August 2001. Since then it has constantly provided bug and security updates, and the cycle will finally end next year, after almost 13 years of support.
On the other hand, Apple relesed iOS 5 on June 2011 and stopped updating it by June 2012. Way to care about their customers.

Sep 24, 2013 9:56 AM in response to Rob Bruenby devilhunter84,It's been really quiet here since the iOS 7 update.
The iPad 1 can't get the iOS7 update, but the iPad 2 can. Since the iPad 2 crashes like mad in all apps that use the internet (webkit) as well, has anyone updated the iP2 to iOS7 and recieved similar crashes?
Remember, it usually takes a few weeks until things really start to crash very often (whyever that is), so maybe it's too early to tell.
I'm on 4.3.3 and have downgraded to it from iOS 5 and 6 and their subversions a few times, because the crashing got worse with each system update. Not going to do the downgrade process all over again now, the last time it barely worked.
It somebody wants to upgrade to iOS7, here are a few tips that i came up with based on my experience with the iPad Webkit memory leak problem:
- Go into DFU mode when you restore, this helps avoiding some problems with apps crashing later on
- unplug your iPad 2 from your Mac/PC when it's done restoreing and verifying, to avoid that the computer transfers ANY (corrupted) files from your backups/account to the iPad 2. Treat the iPad 2 as if you have no computer for at least a month or two.
- Disable iCould and any location services you find to avoid memory bloating and battery drain
Btw, the Grass is also not often greener on the other side. I bought a Nexus 7 Tablet, and this thing has it's own share of very annoying problems like a very wonky Internet connection that thousands of other people also get. Yay Tablet without an internet connection! (Nexus 4 was even worse, and Google support behaves like Apple, they ignore it.)
Everyone cooks with the same muddy water here...

Sep 24, 2013 10:33 AM in response to devilhunter84by Suissejas,Hi there....I was going to post here tonight but you have beat me to it. I have Ipad3 and you can see how many times I have posted here. I feel somewhat vindicated in that IOS 7 update has meant that I have had no crashes for 6 days now....but hold on...everyone at Apple told me here it couldn't possibly be a software problem.....yeah right.!!!! Why couldn't they just be honest sometimes...
-
Sep 24, 2013 10:47 AM in response to Suissejasby devilhunter84,Please keep us posted.
The crashes usually started for me on iOS 5 and 6 after 2 weeks or so. (after a fresh DFU restore with no files transfered from the mac in this time)
On the first few days and sometimes even weeks, everything was peachy.
After one month everything went to heck quickly.
Don't know how many times i restored mine to confirm my own suspicions about something in Webkit that is degrading over time.

Sep 24, 2013 2:24 PM in response to Rob Bruenby exonaut,I cant believe/understand that Apple is doing The same to The ipad2 owners. By The way I finally moved to Android after testing a Leotec Mobile iPhone. Bye, Apple!.

Sep 28, 2013 6:57 AM in response to exonautby geopix,I'm not directing this at you personally, exonaut, but I wonder how many of the complainers in this forum are Samsung and Google shills? I personally have traced at least two, widespread anti-Apple disinformation campaigns back to paid shills hired by marketing firms working for those two, specific companies.
This makes me wonder why this forum still attracts such vehement anti-Apple rhetoric long after Apple fixed this issue for most customers.
I also don't understand why anyone would purchase a cheap Android tablet knock-off of the iPad, given Google's history of privacy violations, the cheap plastic hardware, the imprecise touchscreen software, poor-quality Apps and the ongoing FBI/Homeland Security malware warnings. Android devices are not problem-free - far from it.
I do sincerely hope everyone here finds satisfaction though. We remain happy with our iPad 3 and 4, an iPhone 4 and a new iPhone 5S, all running iOS 7! Meanwhile, a sister and sister-in-law still happily use our old iPad 1's (without problems) each and every day.

I believe I voiced the same concerns you did about Samsung and Google shills on this website. Yet I am going to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. I know that the iPad 1 had only 256 meg of RAM. I would hope that those with the iPad 2 and above who upgrade to iOS 7 will have better performance. Someone else commented about a Safari memory leak that appeared to have been fixed with iOS 7.
I am curious to see if those who have switched to Android will continue to post here.
On another note I am posting this from an iPhone 5S. It is really impressive. The new iPad with 64-bit A7 chip should be a killer machine.
