Q: iPad Safari crashing regularly

Safari on my iPad is crashing fairly frequently; sometimes when I restart it retains the pages that were previously open, and sometimes not.

Have not yet established a pattern, but it seems prevalent on very large pages (for example pages with many images) and on pages with embedded video (particularly Flash).

Anyone else experiencing the same issue and/or have any further information? Anybody using a browser other than Safari on the iPad?

Mac OS X (10.5.1)

I still have iPad 1 and none of these problems. Of course we don't have the same set of Apps, we probably have different settings. There are so many variables that make any problem difficult to diagnose but there are plenty of people who are happy with their iPads.

I am so happy with the reliability of Apple products (I have iPhone 4 too) that my next desktop computer will be a Mac.

Geopix - as you said I am not directing at you personally - some points...

    1. What is a shill of is that a term specifically used on forums ????

    2. You sound the same but from Apple !!

    3. It certainly isn't 'long after Apple fixed the problems'.....go back and read my posts..that statement is crap and no wonder people are upset.

Since iOS 7 upgrade, Safari crashes on a regular basis.  I notice this especially when going to a page with embedded YouTube videos.  Sometimes it happens just by going to the page, and if not then almost always when trying to play the video.  I have tried rebooting, resetting, turning of iCloud, etc., all to no avail. I have an iPhone 5 and an iPad 2, and this problem occurs on both.

Does it occur in private browsing mode?

I need you to find one URL where this problem occurs consistently.

If you know how to do embeds in HTML and can generate a simple HTML page that reliably crashes your browser, so much the better, but a URL will work fine.

Then, I need you to go to apple.com/expresslane

Enter your apple ID and your serial number. Pick a device. Your iphone might work best as it is more recent, and then e-mail Apple about the problem.

A voice in the wilderness ...

I must be Mr. Lucky ... My new iPhone 5s with the latest iOS 7 has no problems. My wife's iPad WRD (Gen 3) is having no problems.

"Do you have the youtube app installed?"

Not sure who this question is addressed to. Neither I nor my wife have the YouTube app installed.

    No problems observed yet.

You may trade in your ipad 1 at a site like powermax or smalldog. Powermax will give you a six month warranty on any used ipads, for example the ipad 2, although you may want to get ipad 3 or higher.

Regardless, they can help you, and their trade in program may allow you to feel less jipped... also, the ipad mini is an attractive option, some people like the form factor even better than the original one, it is super light.

    Hopefully this helps...

Regardless of what the topic is its about its how IPads crash ...Apple needs to step up to the plate and take care of these issues ,,, ppl are getting upset about how Apple is treating ppl over iPads ... My home comp don't crash ,,it's hard to use a iPad that crashes all the time ,,It could be Facebook ,,Safari ,,games ,,,maps ,,text plus ,, the list is long and very frustrating you buy something and you expect it to work for more then a year I have phones that are old but still work .. Apple needs to fix it,,if they don't ppl are going to start going else were to buy things ... Don't get me wrong I like Apple but I sure will shop around before I get a new iPad product .. All these threads started off about the first IPad ,,you are now hearing aboutall apple products phone that are junk iPads that crash all the time ..I don't have a money tree to keep buying Apple stuff I have about 4000 dollar if not more into apple Now In the long run Apple is just hurting it self

This is an opinion; this is not a request for technical support.

Crashes in third-party apps and crashes in Safari are not the same thing. Crashes in ipad 1 and ios7 on later ipads are not the same thing.

I would recommend that if you need support you start your own thread. As I have said, Apple third-party vendors do offer an upgrade path. Powermax is still accepting ipad 1s as trade ins. If you get a used one, you have a 3-6 month warranty, whatever you choose, and comprehensive gaurentees. If you buy new, you will have a 10 day return policy, but their trade in program is a good deal. That's how I upgraded from an ipad 1 to an ipad 2.

Again, please make your own thread if you need help. What version of the operating system are you running?
