Nov 10, 2013 8:09 AM in response to Nutsochickby Sam Katz1,First of all, the ipad air is a different device than the iPad 1 completely.
Second of all, the symptom you are reporting has nothing to do with Safari crashing. You will get better help if you post your own thread which you should link to in this thread.
This problem is indicative of a problem with your ISP, specifically in something called DNS. It may be the cause of issues with Safari as well.
To fix it, please go here for instructions:

Nov 10, 2013 10:58 AM in response to Joachim Hettichby Suissejas,Joachim
You seem to misunderstand..I did indeed take my machine into an Apple store and I make these points
1. They had no idea what was happening EVEN when I produced the problem in front of them
2. I agree they were human beings but as far as being trained...that is stretching the truth somewhat as all they did was replace the machine - no talk of looking itnto the problem whatsoever. Case of 'get rid of this guy - he is taking up my valuable time' !!
3. Not sure you understand why it is not a software problem - they give me a new machine - vanilla - no apps at all but an ISO of say 4.0. I take it home and play with it for a day - no problems. I then update to latest ISO and wham - it starts falling over - what does that tell you ?? I have been in IT for 35 years and all I can say is that if you think that is hardware fault then ......
4. Now I have the same machine (last of the three they gave me) with the latest ISO on it and no problems - please don't tell me it is hardware!!....
I still stand by my assertion that Apple customer service is absolute rubbish.

Nov 10, 2013 12:07 PM in response to Rob Bruenby chasmcg22,I have the new iPad 5. While browsing stumbleupon.com Safari continually crashes. This has been an issue, according to this thread on the Apple forums, for years. What is the fix? Can Apple not fix this? Without Safari working correctly it makes the Ipad 5 useless. I also have the new Surface 2. It doesn't crash on stumbleupon.com at all. It's the iPad plain and simple.

Nov 10, 2013 2:45 PM in response to chasmcg22by chasmcg22,In all fairness, I installed the Stumbleupon app and it seems to be working OK. But I would much rather use the original website instead of the app.

Nov 12, 2013 11:16 AM in response to Joachim Hettichby telfordfrommonifieth,Safari crashed in my iPad mini ever since I upgraded to IOS 7. I downloaded Chrome and it crashed. I then posted in this thread and Joachim Hettich replied that he suspected that the firmware had not downloaded properly and suggested that I download IOS 7 again. Before proceeding with his suggestion, I continued to try to find a non-crashing browser. The following crashed: Dolphin, Mercury & Terra (the latter is no longer available in the Apps store). One browser (Puffin Free) did not crash, but I decided that it seemed likely that, given time, it would. Hence, 2 days ago, I took up that suggestion and headed for Stormfront (Dundee), where I had bought the iPad mini (I could not attempt the reinstall myself, as my G4 eMac Mac OS 10.5.8 cannot do that). A very impressively-able young man backed-up my iPad into iCloud and then reinstalled IOS 7.0.3. I have had no crashes since. Olé!
I record my thanks to those who offered suggestions on this thread, and particularly to Joachim Hettich, whose suggestion was surely spot on. I record also my thanks to Stormfront (Dundee).
I have posted this (hopefully final statement) in the hope that it might help others.

Nov 15, 2013 8:58 AM in response to Rob Bruenby DresNightfire,I've been doing a lot of research and we've been testing on multiple iPad devices in mobile safari as well as iOS simulator (I've also tested in mobile Chrome on iOS and still get crashes so I believe it's either a mobile browser issue or a device software issue based on users reinstalling iOS over again):
iPad 1 (iOS 5.1.1 - model A1219 - 16GB Wi-Fi) - Memory Warning, Crashes due to low memory 100% of time
iPad 2 (iOS 6.1 - model A1395 - 32GB Wi-Fi) - Memory Warning, Crashes due to low memory 100% of time
iPad 2 (iOS 7.0.2 - model A1397 - 32GB - Wi-Fi + 3G CDMA) - Memory Warning, Crashes due to low memory 100% of time
iPad 3 (iOS 6.1.3 - model A1416 - 16BG Wi-Fi) - Memory Warning, Crashes due to low memory 66% of time
iPad 3 (iOS 7.0.2 - model A1416 - 32GB Wi-Fi) - Memory Warning, Crashes due to low memory 40% of time
iPad Mini (iOS 7.0.1 - 16GB) - Memory Warning, Crashes due to low memory 66% of time
I'll post up results of iOS simulator testing soon.

Nov 16, 2013 5:52 AM in response to Rob Bruenby waynewat,I've been able to reliably replicate the issue on my iPad4. This was performed on a completely fresh vanilla IOS7 install.
1) Open someones twitter account in Safari (make sure they have some tweets because you will be scrolling through them)
2) Click on "tweets" to list their tweets.
3) Scroll down the list of tweets until you reach the end several times
4) Then quickly scroll back up the list of tweets. - at this point the browser can shut down. You may have to do it several times.

Nov 16, 2013 1:36 PM in response to Rob Bruenby psmyth,Haven't read this entire thread, but have followed other threads. Here's the status now.
The crashes occur even on devices restored as a new device in he Apple Store.m
They're associated with low memory in Diagnostics and Data.
Apple is replacing device under AppleCare for free. He replacement still crash.
Someone went into a store and shoes he genius guys that the store iPads crash.
I have a brand new replacement iPad 4 hat of course crashes.
iOS 7.04 was not a fix for this.
Big Apple problem.

Nov 17, 2013 3:56 PM in response to Rob Bruenby waynewat,Turned up to my Apple appointment and demonstrated the problem and showed them that it was also happening on the iPad Air as well as my iPad 4. The smart little brat told me that there was nothing he could do, just use the app instead of the website, that was his solution. I said that that was a a disappointing solution for a company that prides itself on quality products. I said I needed to know that Apple are on to this and a fix is in the works. He said they have no idea and that they have no connection with the developers of iOS.
This is an iOS7 problem because its happening on Safari as well as other browsers, it didn't happen on prior iOS versions. It's not happening on my Windows 7 box.
Totally left hanging with a dud iPad 4.

Nov 17, 2013 11:12 PM in response to waynewatby Joachim Hettich,If there's an app then it's often because the main website is very RAM intensive and is known to crash mobile devices which have a lot less RAM than a desktop or laptop.

Nov 18, 2013 12:14 AM in response to waynewatby Suissejas,Waynewat - Welcome to the world of Apple customer service !!! Exactly what happened to me except I showed them 3 times and then I gave up !! You will get a lot of Apple apologists on here who won't have a bad word said about them but just ignore - WE know what we have faced. Good luck.

Nov 18, 2013 7:16 AM in response to Joachim Hettichby Mr.Eee,It's strange because my $90 Android tablet can run websites my iPad Air can not without crashing. A friend has kept an old iPad One running the original iOS 3.2 (?) it's jailbroken so he never bothered to update it. He says that iPad One's browser has never crashed like his iPad 4 does. I agree with him and think these issues started with iOS 4, something is conflicting and hasn't been addressed.

Nov 18, 2013 4:52 PM in response to Suissejasby waynewat,There are certainly apps fir Twitter I can use but that is not the only site that causes the browser shutdown. It happens all the time on web sites that host Disqus comment boards and there isn't an app for the Disqus comment board for those web sites. That means I'm pretty much limited to using those sites with my Windows 7 box because its not possible with the iPad without constant shutdowns.
Very frustrating.. and surprising for a company like Apple.
