Jan 7, 2014 6:36 AM in response to geopixby dabluone,5 week old ipad Air 32GB wifi continually crashes using safari, usually happens when I have over 5 tabs open. Ive tried everyting mentioned on this thread and did a complete factory restore last night but nothing helps.
Want to return to John Lewis for a refund but they dont refund "faulty goods" they repair only. Not happy.
Apple, look at how long this thread it already. The problem will be bigger than this thread, imagine how many people have this problem but stay quiet. Get your finger out and fix this bug!
Along with the Jelly splash pop up issue Im suffering I really wish I hadnt just spent over £1000 on Apple kit and wont do again after my current 5s and Ipad Air hit 2yrs old.

Jan 8, 2014 4:34 AM in response to Rob Bruenby pterri,Yep, this is my third ipad. My old ipad running ios7 was fine, very rare crashes. My nice EXPENSIVE ipad air crashes several times a day. Seems to crash on 'busy' pages like newspapers that have all sorts of pop ups, embedded video etc.
apple can charge high prices because they provide a premium product, forget that and it's the beginning of the decline of a massive brand.

Jan 8, 2014 8:33 AM in response to Rob Bruenby thomasgsch,Not sure if anyone at Apple reads these posts, but I thought I would add my comment. I have a 3rd generation iPad (32gig) and never really had any issues with it until I updated to IOS 7. Since then, it crashes at least one a day when I try to unlock the screen. I hate to say this because I love my Apple products, but I have started to test a Surface unit with Win 8.1 as a possible replacement for my mobile work device.

Jan 8, 2014 9:04 AM in response to Rob Bruenby alpacasrme,Just a wild idea from my observation using an ipad air128 cellular. In IOS7 because it is multi tasking almost every app stays open. To see this use the 4-5 finger swipe. This shortcut can be found in settings. Took me awhile to get the swipe and all fingers on board to swipe up. There are icons of each open program. Each individual program can be closed with a swipe up. Maybe that will help.
Also in Safari new pages just keep making tabs. There are three little dots by the last tab. You might surprise yourself with the number of tabs open. I sure have.
Don't know if this will help anybody, but hope it does.

Jan 8, 2014 3:48 PM in response to dabluoneby Sam Katz1,You purchased from John Lewis Clearance.
You cannot ever trust such a site.
I would try to allow them to repair it. I would ask what that process entails, where they send it, etc.
I believe that the ipad may have been put on clearance because it was defective.
You can pickup used ipads at Powermax very inexpensively. I would do that instead.
I just did.

Jan 8, 2014 3:57 PM in response to dabluoneby Mr.Eee,If it's an iPad Air it's still under factory warranty, bring it to an Apple Store.
You can use this link to enter the serial number to check warranty coverage and schedule an appointment.

Jan 8, 2014 7:19 PM in response to Rob Bruenby Linzi618,I'm here to just throw my hat into the ring that I, too, have been experiencing daily, numerous, almost constant Safari crashes. I began to experience them after upgrading my old ipad2 to ios7. I have since upgraded to ipad Air (16gb wifi) and since day 1 (I purchased mine from Best Buy on launch day), I have experienced the random crashing. This happens on all sorts of websites; newspaper websites, forums, sites with embedded YouTube video or comment sections, you name it. It happens regardless of the number of tabs I have open. It happens regardless of the amount of free memory I have on my device.
I have NOT yet attempted a system restore to see if it resolves the issue, although I am skeptical as it has been happening since the day I purchased it.
I'm glad I live in Austin, TX and have access to an Apple store.
I hope Apple is listening. Steve is turning in his grave...

Jan 8, 2014 9:05 PM in response to Rob Bruenby Jernicmacken,Our new iPad air crashes all the time in safari! Went to the Apple store today with the iPad to have them test and was told just certain sites that use Java or Flash Player are probably making it crash because Apple doesn't support them... I found this discussion now and it seems to be a major problem.... Started to have the same issue with our old iPad but was able to fix it by deleting history and cookies and restarting the iPad. The fix didn't work on the air though... :( so it still crashes... Apple please fix this problem!!!
-
Jan 8, 2014 9:17 PM in response to Jernicmackenby Sam Katz1,This is insanely bad advice. Sites that use Java or Flash do not display their applications, ads, videos etc. They do not crash.
Please escalate via Applecare. Please take your ipad to a third-party AASP.

Jan 9, 2014 12:20 AM in response to Sam Katz1by dabluone,No, I didnt purchase from John Lewis "clearance" if that comment was in reply to me? Also John Lewis is a large UK company with a solid reputation and has been in business for years with bricks and mortar stores, Im guessing you dont know that?
Update: 2nd full factory reset and setup as a new ipad and it still crashes in Safari. Its going back and Im demanding a refund sadly.
Im sure certain people on this thread will say its user error, a reset will help even though Ive already done this or to seek third party assistance

Jan 10, 2014 10:48 AM in response to dabluoneby Nutsochick,This is insane! I've been on this thread almost from the beginning and it seems that NOTHING has changed or been fixed with either updates or new tablets.
Yes, I have the Original iPad and it use to work beautifully until OS 5.1. And yes, I know that there is NO FEASIBLE WAY the updates after 5.1 can/should affect my iPad. So, WHY WOULD my iPad be crashing more and more, with every update that's Apple releases, in the SAME applications (Safari, Daily News Reports, etc) everyone else in this thread is complaining about?
-
Jan 10, 2014 12:37 PM in response to Nutsochickby Suissejas,It is not insane ! ...it is the way Apple does business. As I said before when will you people learn that they are not going to do a **** thing about it...just don't have anything to do with them despite you all being sucked in to going and buying the latest gadget from them. Wake up people...

Jan 10, 2014 1:03 PM in response to Nutsochickby Sam Katz1,Please do a DFU Restore as instructed by Apple Technicians.
Thank you.

Jan 10, 2014 1:04 PM in response to Suissejasby Sam Katz1,Most iPads do not have this problem.
--Sam
P.S That said, my father's ipad air appears to be kernel panicking so we will work through apple channels to resolve that but that has nothing to do with this thread.

Jan 10, 2014 1:44 PM in response to Nutsochickby psmyth,Nutsochick, you're getting crashes on iPad 1 with no iOS 7?
If the apps that are crashing are updates, then maybe the problem isn't iOS, but coding that was included in the app updates to wok with iOS 7, but don't play nice wih any iPad.
We're probably not hearing much about this on iPad 1 because users aren't coming to these threads.
