Q: iPad Safari crashing regularly

Safari on my iPad is crashing fairly frequently; sometimes when I restart it retains the pages that were previously open, and sometimes not.

Have not yet established a pattern, but it seems prevalent on very large pages (for example pages with many images) and on pages with embedded video (particularly Flash).

Anyone else experiencing the same issue and/or have any further information? Anybody using a browser other than Safari on the iPad?

Mac OS X (10.5.1)

I have an original iPad 1 and it consistently crashes when using any browser to visit sites that use a lot of JavaScript, especially pages with a lot of ad networks. When I turn off JavaScript, they go away. Large apps such as Facebook and LinkedIn also cause crashes although less frequently.

Apple is trying to spin this, big time. I have been getting censored repeatedly on the other thread as well, but they arnt censoring these new people that are starting to show up on the thread, denying there is a problem.

Why doesn't the Press pick up on this?  Maybe then we'll get some results.

Probably because they want to keep getting all those free devices from Apple for "review"....

Thousands of dollars Worth of free stuff is a serious incentive to hesitate on criticizing (biting the hand) the feeds them.

My iPaid Air is also crashing quite often. It's really a pain, and honestly, I'm thinking about switching to a different tablet right now.

    There are enough alternatives.

Someone needs to. This is BS! I have an iPad 4 32gb and ever since I upgraded, safari and chrome both crash EVERY DAY. I often give up and go to my lap top. My 4th gen iPod never crashes....it's 6.1.5 and 8gb. Obviously this is software related and instead of making the next expensive gadget with whatever, they should make things stable.

I am an old time Windows user(since windows 1.0) and I really am used to bad software as a direct result of marketing. The browser(Safari,Chrome) crashing issues on current IOS are symptoms of a vendor who really doesn't give **** about their customers with problems, because they must allocate their billions for new gadgets to new customers.

I have made an honest attempt to switch to Apple for the past 5 years with thousands of dollars of investment, but also kept up with Windows. I can honestly say that I have never seen such a blatant disregard for customer satisfaction on the MS platform and have the vendor survive. I am having a hard time with a platform where the technology foundation is crashing and there is not even a hint that there maybe a fix in the near future.

I have an iPad mini1 which started crashing with Safari shortly after updating to IOS 7.0.4. This went on for months - hard resets, calls to Apple, to no avail. Then I turned off Safari in the iCloud setting, cleared cache and history in Safari settings. It has worked ever since even though I turned Safari back in iCloud setting. I have no idea whether my tinkering was responsible, but it's worked OK for a month and a half with no crashes. I am at a loss to explain this. IOS 7.1 is out in Feb - maybe that'll fix things for everyone. Good luck!

I do not want to place all the blame on these vendors who wants to stand in isolation from the rest and doesn't want others in their sand box, because they think that they can be sole provider of every whim and desire to all lemmings(oops! I mean customers) out there.

    Yes, WE ARE LEMMINGS.

    - We buy a new widget, that will probably not work for what we want(just read all the fine print).

    - We allow the vendor to tell us what we "need".

    - Vendor will hide behind a lot of procedures and level 1 "support" staff.

    - Vendor has no intention of fixing anything that was just released, they need you to "upgrade".

    - We gather in little groups and attempt fixes that more than likely will not work for every one.

    - We keep coming back or better said "jump off the cliff".

    Ohh YES, WE ARE LEMMINGS!!!!

Well, Frank, that solved my iPad issue.

Also the question of what posts get deleted.

Thanks Doc and PS...agreed on all counts.

I have an iPad 3 32gb, running os6, and I, too, am experiencing countless safari (and ebay) crashes.  So I don't believe this is an os7 issue.  But I will try Doc's suggestion and report back.  Thanks, fellow lemmings ;)

There are NO deragotary remarks in my posts and if they get removed than this lemming will abandon the sand box.
