Mar 15, 2014 3:57 AM in response to VLSI_Frankby iOS upgrade killed my ipad,I bought my iPad one when the two was launched so I have no issue that my machine is not cutting edge.
If I drop or damage my device or it gets stolen is a fact of life.
My BIG unforgivable issue is that Apple have rendered my safari browser useless through a software update they chose to introduce. If they were fixing bugs fine but they introduced a huge one and their attitude is buy the latest machine and start the same cycle again.
Once burnt twice shy!

Mar 15, 2014 10:00 AM in response to ClownCakeby Tinchote,iOS 7??? Have you noticed that we are on page 110 of this thread? This thread started in mid 2010, that's almost four years ago. And there is not a single trace of Apple addressing the issue that has since gotten worse.
The issue here is that Apple dropped support for a $800 device less than two years after it was introduced, and it has never recognized that there is some serious bug in their webkit implemention, which they forced on all browser manufacturers.

Mar 15, 2014 2:02 PM in response to ClownCakeby sarjenka,My device is only four years old and Safari has been unusable for over a year. No, actually I dont' think it's crazy to think that something I paid over 900 dollars for would still be usable four years later. I don't spend that kind of money frivoulously. Also since the people who own a brand new one have the same problem...then obviously buying a newer device won't help. If you have enough disposable income to throw away a grand every year then thats great...thats not the reality most people live in. If I spend that much money I expect the item to function as advertised.

Mar 15, 2014 3:27 PM in response to sarjenkaby ClownCake,My Safari stopped crashing after factory reset. There seems to be the hardware that is malfunctioning for you. And what advertisement are you referring to if I may ask? Does it really say that it is supposed to be fully operational with newer iOS version?
-
Mar 15, 2014 8:38 PM in response to ClownCakeby Vince Medlock,Glad the factory reset worked for you. It didn't for me, nor apparently did it work for many (most?) of the people in this thread. And yes, I also expect a machine that cost over $600 to still be usable less than two years later. If that's unreasonable, then so be it.
FWIW, someone from Apple does read these threads. Several of us have had posts deleted for mentioning the unmentionable here (namely liberating our devices so that we control them, not Apple).

Mar 15, 2014 11:53 PM in response to VLSI_Frankby on0,I upgraded to iOS 7.1 yesterday morning early and knock on wood no crashes yet since the upgrade. Fingers crossed maybe they got this thing fixed finally...
Has anyone running 7.1 experienced crashes?

Mar 16, 2014 7:25 AM in response to on0by Flipland,I upgraded to the last OS. No crash at all since 2 days.
Wow... finally
Cross my finger and hope it still stay like that.

Mar 16, 2014 1:34 PM in response to Rob Bruenby Bardium,Aother follow up to my problem now that we are on page 110 of this thread. So I did wipe and reinstall as the Genius suggested. At first all seemed good, but right away Safari started to crash and it still does. I upgraded to the new iOS but that did absolutely nothing. Safari still crashes and the problem i had with not being able to delete emails still exists. So when I try to delete a message i get "Unable to move message."
There is lots of talk on this thread about how to get Apple to deal with the problem from class action to boycotts. I humbly suggest that those aren't realistic remedies and going against them legally will go nowhere. The only thing I can suggest that will work is to not buy Apple products and that will solve the problem on a personal level. Tell your friends too (good luck with that because of their rabid following).
I can use my iPad 2 but it is annoying to have to restart Safari every sesion 2 or 3 times. When it craps out I'll buy a Windows tablet.

Mar 16, 2014 9:05 PM in response to IdrisSeabrightby Nutsochick,Thanks for the lesson. But as a retired Executive Secretary ATT would not have made it off my desk because it could stand for many different companies or associations. And as you mentioned earlier, this thread is used world-wide which means it could stand for almost anything to anyone.
By the way, when I typed in ATT, it tried to correct it WITH the ampersand.

Mar 17, 2014 6:05 AM in response to Rob Bruenby Tulkinghorn,Just came back here to report that the iOS 7.1 appears to solve the problem for me. In 6 days of heavy use, I've experienced perhaps 2-3 crashes, which I consider normal, acceptable performance vs. 5 or more crashes daily, which I had before.

Mar 17, 2014 6:39 AM in response to Bardiumby Flipland,Hi,
Since I updated to the latest OS, I didn't crash at all and I used my IPad Air more than 5 hours. I don't understand why it work for me and On0 and not for you.
I can tell you that before I Installed the new release, I crashed and reboot my IPad Air so many times that I was feed up and wish to be refound by Apple.
So, may be, it's too cold in Montreal (-18c, brrrrr), joking !

Same here. 2-3 total crashes. Each with low memory message.
Much better.
You seeing a low memory when it crashes?

Mar 17, 2014 10:59 AM in response to Rob Bruenby Last-iPad4me,Great news... for a few of you guys.
Now for the rest of us older iPad owners who were forced to update to the last version of iOS that we could... and can't roll back to an older version... can't run apps that we've bought and paid for... I guess we're just screwed because our iPad's still crash and Apple is more concerned about forced obsolescence than hardware that has a functional OS and apps that don't crash.
Sorry $ 800 or so every couple years is not my idea of a solution and it isn't for the vast majority of people who dole out the bucks for an expensive tablet. Tablets are recreational devices for the most part.. for every person who uses one for actual work there are dozens who use it only for email, facebook, twitter, and surfing the web . That makes it very much a discretionary expenditure.... and at $ 600 - 800 a pop... a very expensive one at that.
To expect an investment in an Apple product to last more than two years is very realistic and I expect Apple to see it as such too... but their responsiveness proves otherwise.
So... Apple... where is the solution for the others of us who are still crashing repeatedly ? Where is the solution for us early adopters upon whose pocketbooks the success of the iPad was built ?
When are we to expect a solution ? At least open the old versions of iOS up so the open source community can do what your team of developers apparently can't.... turn our iPad's back into useful devices and not frustrating paperweights.
When can we expect a solution ?

Mar 17, 2014 11:03 AM in response to psmythby on0,My new "Air" crashed infrequently and I exchanged it because I thought it was a hardware problem. The replacement had the same problem up until the 7.1 update 3 days ago. No crashes since but others have said that they have done the update and continue having problems so I'm hoping for the best.. Time will tell.
I use my iPad several hours daily (appx 3 to 4) more or less some days.
Edit: Have also been using BING brouser on occasion without any crashes.
