Jan 7, 2012 1:26 PM in response to Rob Bruenby rajivfromgreenwich,I can't believe that they haven't fixed this thing even after a year of people complaining. I have a new Ipad2 that I got in dec 2011 and my safari crashes a dozen times in an hour. Every time I visit google news or huffington post, the page starts loading and crashes when I click something on it. Do apple engineers really test this thing properly? As noted by Many others, this happens on large pages with lot of graphics (like google news and huffington post). Unfortunately for me, my main reason for using safari is to browse news sites and it's not working for w

I can't believe that you'd rather complain instead of resolving your problems.

Jan 7, 2012 2:19 PM in response to rajivfromgreenwichby JimHdk,A year? The Safari crashing problem being discussed relates to the iOS 5 version of Safari which was released in mid-October 2011.
In my experience IOS 5 Safari crashes more than the previous release but is still quite useable. I don't have the problems you are experiencing with the Huffington Post or Google News.
You might want to try using Settings > Safari > Clear History and Clear Cookies and Data to see if that helps with your problem.

Jan 7, 2012 2:30 PM in response to Philly_Phanby JimHdk,Philly,
The problem that these users are complaining about is not imaginary and, unfortunately, going to an Apple is not likely to result in any solution. The iOS 5 version of Safari (Webkit) is not as stable as the previous release. How often one sees its problems depends on what Web sites are visited and how Safari is used.
Since Apple is receiving crash reports on these problems (if the reporting feature is turned ON in Settings) presumably they are aware of an increase in crashes and will be taking action to release a stability update at some point to Safari.
I have noticed a decrease in the stability of Safari but not to the extent that some others seem to be having. For me it's less stable but still usable.

I never made such an allegation.

Perhaps you're correct but not going to an Apple Store is much less likely to result in any solution. Certainly there must be some rational explanation for the fact that many many iPads are functioning just fine.

Unlike others, I do not allege years of programming experience but perhaps that's the reason why major web sites provide iPad apps. Perhaps there is an issue actually at the web sites themselves of which we are unaware.

I have toggled with :

Jan 7, 2012 3:37 PM in response to StopthisNonsenseby JimHdk,If you are receiving notifications then, in Actions, you should see, "Stop email notifications". Select this to stop notifications.

Jan 7, 2012 4:09 PM in response to Philly_Phanby rajivfromgreenwich,I am aware of the Google news and Huffpost IPad apps. I don't like to clutter my device with one app for every website I visit. The **** browser is supposed to work. As far as your suggestion that I fix my own problems instead of complaining is concerned: I paid for the device and I expect it to work.

Jan 7, 2012 4:12 PM in response to Philly_Phanby Sam Katz1,No company would stand for their website crashing on ipads, not HuffPo (owned by AOL), nor google news.
It's a nice gesture. But if you are willing, let's get the problem fixed.
If you purchased your ipad in dec. 2011, you have options. Apple warranties the device for a year from purchase. They will fix it or replace it for you.
Are you willing to take them up on that?
--Sam
P.S You may also have access to return policies under your credit card company's policies. They will make you contact technical support first however, and Apple really is quite competent at helping most of the time. They have a replacement program in place for exactly this sort of thing. iOS 5 was a major update. It is quite possible that if it was a bug, it is only in the update process to iOS 5, and will not reproduce again. Again, pure speculation, I am not an Apple employee. If the update process damaged your ipad, apple will replace it, and damaged ipad includes this kind of damage.

Sure. You won't use the solutions that are available to you and you won't take it to Apple to get resolution. Must be awfully frustrating for you.
Enjoy your purchase!
