Jan 12, 2012 7:38 AM in response to Rob Bruenby CobraJet,It's amazing that Apple has absolutely NO response to this matter at all.
Anyone can search google for "iPad 2 crashes, iPad1 crashes, iPad Safari crashes, Safari crashes on iPad", etc etc etc and they will find and see TONS of frustrated iPad users not only posting here on Apple's Support Communities, but also anyone and everyone who uses or belongs to a web forum that uses or has integrated vBulletin are also posting up about the issue as well. Yet, Apple does not seem to be addressing the issue.
I have read nearly every thread on these support communities about this issue - and NONE of the so called "fixes" that others offer up will correct OR fix the problem.
ALL of these previously suggested actions from some members of this site (and found online) DO NOT WORK to resolve the Safari crashing problem:
Clearing Safari cache
Clearing Safari Cookies & Data
Clearing Website Data
Turning off Java Script
Turning off Block Pop Ups
Turning off iCloud (or deleting iCloud account)
Turning off or disabling all Spotlight searches
Turning off Multitasking Gestures
Closing Apps
Reset All Settings (via Settings/General/Reset)
Erase All Content & Settings (via Settings/General/Reset)
"Restart iPad" - by depressing Sleep/Awake buttons, until red slider appears to turn off iPad
"Reset iPad" - by holding Home Button and Sleep/Awake button at same time, for 10 secs until Apple logo appears
There is an apparent issue with OS 5.0.1 which is causing Safari and/or other functions of the iPad 2 (or iPad 1) to become either corrupt, unstable OR there is a definitive memory issue or "leak" that is causing Safari to immediately crash, exiting directly to the home screen.
The crashing is prevelant when trying to respond, post or send PM's on vBulletin web sites/forums, when trying to open some Adobe PDF files of a certain size and/or when just visiting certain web sites without any other action from the user (ie: posting) OR any other apps being in use or "open" in the background.
I've tried ALL of the above - the redundant crashing of Safari still exists on my NEW (less than 2.5 weeks old) iPad 2. It's discouraging, it's frustrating and there's no reason why the problem should still exist TODAY, since this specific problem has been brought to Apple's attention by NUMEROUS iPad 2 and iPad 1 users of which started experiencing the crashing issue only AFTER upgrading to OS 5.0.1 (which was released in October 2011)!!

As for Philly_Phan - instead of you just berating others on here, or making senseless, ignorant comments that are not adding ANY tech or useful information to this thread - why not contribute useful info such as:
When did you buy your iPad - is it a 1 or 2, was it upgraded to OS 5.0.1 (if so, when) and do you experience ANY issues at all with your device? Do you visit or belong to any forums that use vBulletin, or do you work w/ large PDF files?
It's fine if you don't have any issues with yours, but, as you can very well see - this is a BIG issue that is affecting MANY Apple consumers that have upgraded to the most current OS on their iPads. Your comments are childish and only ruin the respect others would have for you, if you were contributing in a positive manner. There ARE folks on here who have taken their devices to their local Apple Store, have contacted Apple Support via phone (1-800-275-2273) and have visited "Genuis" bars, etc. Those same folks are also venting their frustrations on here, because the issue PERSISTS after trying these other avenues. This is NOT getting the visibility it should from Apple Corporate - nor has Apple made any attempt to contact those of us WHO HAVE CONTACTED THEM to try and work the issue any further.
I myself have completed the Apple "feedback" form from the link provided on here (www.apple.com/fedback/ipad.html) - as well as many others who are reporting the "bug" or known Safari crashing issue. I've yet to receive ANY response from Apple. I don't feel that we as consumers who paid anywhere from $499 to $829 (depending on model & wifi vs 3g) should have a device that continually crashes under NORMAL use as it was designed and intended to be used. The problem is apparent that it IS linked to the OS 5.0.1 update and it's a widespread problem too.

Jan 12, 2012 7:31 AM in response to CobraJetby Philly_Phan,Isn't it clear that your rantings on the forum haven't accomplished anything? Why not simply purchase a competing product that satisfies your requirements? You would certainly enjoy life more than you do now and it really won't cost you much at all as iPads bring a good price on eBay.

Jan 12, 2012 7:52 AM in response to Philly_Phanby JimHdk,That's not just a rant. The problem is real and the actions suggested to "fix" it, as CobraJet states, don't provide a permanent solution.
Although Apple states that they don't respond to feedback reports the problem is still up to Apple to solve.
It's not necessary to chastise those who complain about Apple products and this problem in particular. Apple does does not need such defence. It is, however, up to Apple to increase the stability of Safari/Webkit level 5 on the iPad. It's clearly causing some users big problems.
I've seen more crashes on my iPad 1 with Safari and iOS 5/5.0.1 than with previous levels. Not enough to be a major problem but definitely more. I can see that if you need to use certain websites that bring out this problem it could be very annoying. Note that this is NOT the fault of the websites.

Jan 12, 2012 8:00 AM in response to JimHdkby Philly_Phan,Please note that I never claimed that the problem is not real. It is, in fact, affecting some iPads.
The problem may be, as you say, up to Apple to resolve but clearly trashing Apple on the forum hasn't accomplished a thing.
I once had a car that was, for me, as crappy as others claim the iPad is for them. I sold it and bought another. I then continued to enjoy life. Please tell me the logic in keeping a product that has, as you say, big problems.

Jan 12, 2012 8:19 AM in response to Tim Gouveiaby karenvb,Can someone with over 150 points hit the abuse button for Philly's post(s)?
"...when you get 150 points you will be able to hit the Report Abuse button each time he does this. Other than that act like none of his posts exists, or, within the thread you are in if there is someone posting with 150 points ask them to hit the Report Abuse button. But you probably won't have to ask, they will have already done so."

Jan 12, 2012 6:46 PM in response to JimHdkby njd232,Just want to say that I'm putting my ipad up for sale tonight. I hate that I spent this much money only to have a problem that has lasted for years now and still not been addressed. I'm going to just use my 5 year old laptop (windows 7 and it actually never crashes) until the newer Transformer Prime comes out.

I certainly agree that you should sell it if you're not happy with it. However, just for the record, IOS 5.01 has not been out for "years" and, in fact, neither has the iPad!

Jan 13, 2012 5:46 AM in response to JimHdkby kbink,I was having a terrible time with mine as well.
I tried everything.
I went in on settings and turned the "debug console" option to ON.
I have not had any trouble since, it's been over a week, and this was before a several times daily issue.
Not saying its a fix, but right now I am happy.

Jan 14, 2012 2:49 PM in response to Rob Bruenby Backtrack,I have the original ipad and thought that one of the upgrades had subjected me to random frequent (couple times a week) aggravating Safari crashes. I'd regularly clear the history/cache/whatever, had a clear memrory app id run, reboot, even did a factory reset once on the thing and still the same....random Safari crashes on random websites regardless of what OS I had upgraded to.
Note: I'm an infrequent poster and parts of the post below may be "inappropriate", but just sharing my experience...
So this Safari crashing happened whether or not the thing was "jaillbrokeun". So sometime in past few weeks I was browsing and accidently (for the umpteenth time) launched a new tab because I inadvertantly clicked on an advertisment while scrolling with my thumb....anyhow....the short story was that in the condition my ipad was in there happens to be a way to install an "ad blocker". I did so and not because I have something against ads being displayed and providing revenue for sites....its just my fingers have done a lot of inadvertant ad clicking. A side effect of installing this ad blocker is that Safari app has not crashed once...not once - which is a sweet given how regularly Safari had crashed in the past.
Im not encouraging you to replicate my resolution (there are ways to ad block by web proxy or at the router level if you want dabble with this idea-which you shouldn't have to...the iPad should just work). As relayed above I'm just sharing my experience and i'm delighted that I no longer encounter Safari crashes on the iPad after a year+ of random app crahses.

From the text in the post, I believe that the app requires a jailbreak. If you do that, don't even think about a repair from Apple.
