Feb 5, 2012 2:34 PM in response to wdhuttonby hobiz2,i have returned 2 others. on my third. walked thru a new install with the tech supervisor. did not import anything, even bookmarks. was running i window in safari and 20 after i was off the phone it crashed.
The real problem is that they keep denying me any upgrade change in hardware despite my applecare product.
They say the problem must be in MY software despite having absolutely nada on the ipad. applecare only covers hardware, so despite having a non functioning machine, apple won't replace.
It is obviously impossible for us to say it isn't software, just as it should be impossible for them to rule out hardware, but they hold the cards.

Feb 5, 2012 5:46 PM in response to Rob Bruenby Over the apple,I have been an Apple customer since the 80's. I remember when they had free telephone support. I have always stood by their products, because they have been so elegant and easy. But the effect of this latest "upgrade" on the 1st generation iPad, and their apparent total lack of regard for their customers, has me telling everyone I know to avoid Apple - at least when it comes to tablet applications.
Their level of software coding, quality control, implementation, and customer care would make Microsoft blush.
FIX THIS ALREADY!

Feb 5, 2012 6:18 PM in response to hobiz2by Catsman,It amazes me that no Apple mag or press has taken this up. It would appear that it is time to take the issue up with consumer affairs. The product is no longer fit for purpose ie browsing the web. It crashes with no apps loaded so it is definitely an Apple issue.
Like others I am a long time Apple supporter but going off them very quickly.

Feb 6, 2012 4:22 PM in response to Rob Bruenby kenhui,I'm currently using the ipad 2 with iOS 5, and I have noticed that safari remains fairly stable UNTIL I've used Facetime. And then I experience all the problems stated above.
Usually resetting helps, but when I use Facetime again the same thing happens. It's quite frustrating especially since Apple has always prided themselves on releasing great products. This entire fiasco is really taking away from their image.

Feb 7, 2012 12:46 PM in response to Rob Bruenby Peterzen21,I actually tried several things and did a hard reset twice in the row and it did help. My safari does not crash anymore.

Feb 8, 2012 11:19 AM in response to Rob Bruenby Raingod,Just wait a day and your crashing will come back. So I can report that Futureshop did not fix the crashing problem. I only have stock apps and nothing else on my iPad. Safari crashed for the first time since I got my iPad back about day later. Now its back to crashing multiple times a day.

Feb 8, 2012 3:48 PM in response to Rob Bruenby rage187,I'm so sick of the crashing. Heck, it took me a solid 2 minutes to get this web page stable enough to type a full post. My iPad 1 32 3G, constantly crashes. It is darn near unusable. If you want to experience the crash fest, try going to TMZ dotcom and just try and keep Safari from crashing. I'm do for a new iPad in March and won't be picking up an iPad 3 until this issue is resolved. Partly because I couldn't sell my current one without someone wanting to return it as broken.

Feb 8, 2012 5:04 PM in response to rage187by hobiz2,TMZ is a great one to cause it to crash. I told them specifically about it, and now i am not even getting my emails or calls returned.
just told my 85yr old mother to buy a windows laptop. cheap and much better realiability than in the past

Feb 8, 2012 6:20 PM in response to Rob Bruenby rage187,Everyone, if you have not already, please go to the first post in this thread and click the "I have this question too" link. We use the same support platform and this is likely the best way to get them to take notice. Still post here but make sure you do at least that.

Feb 8, 2012 10:40 PM in response to Rob Bruenby Tygar Prawns,Yup crashing here too! Driving me nuts.

Feb 8, 2012 11:08 PM in response to Tygar Prawnsby DandVH,Im sick of this problem. Crashing every few minutes on both safari and Apollo. Tried every trick. This seems eerily similar to what happened with my iPhone 3G near the end of its cycle. It's obvious it's a ploy by apple to move users onto new hardware. Why can't we revert to old software? No chance I'll be upgrading to th next iPad.

Feb 9, 2012 5:51 AM in response to Rob Bruenby yudashin,Was trying to search on Barnes and Noble and my iPad crashed at least 4 times to the home screen. The last time, my tabs for other Internet sites disappeared. This is so crazy. Can a virus get into an iPad?
-
Feb 9, 2012 6:15 AM in response to yudashinby hobiz2,check out the diagnostics under the general tab in settings and see that it is always a low memory problem which means either the ios is too much for the puny RAM, or the ram in some machines is defective..in my opinion
-
Feb 9, 2012 8:29 AM in response to hobiz2by rage187,mine happens because it runs out of RAM.
It looks like IOS 5.1 should resolve the memory leak. It is one of the reasons 5.02 did not come out on time. It would just great customer service if Apple would reply to this thread and say "hey users, we are aware of the issue and are working on a solution".
I expect that level of customer service from Apple and I'm pretty shocked that I'm staring at a thread with 150,000 views, close to 600 replies and not 1 reply from Apple support.

Feb 9, 2012 2:25 PM in response to Rob Bruenby Cthehill,My iPad is the first Apple product I have owned. I don't recall my Windows laptops crashing when surfing the web. This iPad continuously crashes with Safari and Youtube. If this is representative of Apple products and customer responsiveness, Apple is not all it's cracked up to be.
