Q: iPad Safari crashing regularly

Safari on my iPad is crashing fairly frequently; sometimes when I restart it retains the pages that were previously open, and sometimes not.

Have not yet established a pattern, but it seems prevalent on very large pages (for example pages with many images) and on pages with embedded video (particularly Flash).

Anyone else experiencing the same issue and/or have any further information? Anybody using a browser other than Safari on the iPad?

Mac OS X (10.5.1)

i agree with all of the above.  Ever since the upgrade via Itunes, Safari wont connect and msge says 'cant connect because not connected to the internet', however Wifi is fully connected.  Safari is unavailable every other time I try to browse the web.  Mail is fine.  Have tried everything known to man, if under guarantee will I get a new one?  Very frustrating for this non technophobe of 64!

That is not a crash. I would recommend making a new thread for it. That is a wifi connectivity issue. Have you tried resetting your network settings?

Assuming you have your wifi and possibly your e-mail passwords, go to Settings. Click General --> Reset. and Reset Network Settings.

The apple knowledge base has a few other suggestions.

    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1398

Could I ask for the manufacturer and model of your router?

    Which update did you install?

    --Sam

P.S If you do make a new thread, put a link to it in this thread. State in the subject and in the post which update you installed from what to what.

    According to this thread, https://discussions.apple.com/message/15159507#15159507

Resetting all settings seems to fix the problem where Safari crashes immediately on launch.

Please be specific about the kind of symptom you are having. "I launch Safari and x happens." "I have tried doing x". "I am running the following OS version".

Ok, tonight, Safari and Email have been crashing on my iphone 3G, ie hanging, then going straight back to the homepage.  I have spent a good few hours reading up on how to fix the problem.  So far I have rebooted, installed the latest updates through iTunes, backed up, restored, synced and still, Safari and Email crashes.

My fellas iPhone 4 is absolutely fine.

I feel i have done everything suggested, and not quite sure where to go from here. Any suggestions other than taking it to the Apple Store?

I suspect this is a different problem than the one mentioned in this thread because both Mail and Safari are crashing.

Do I have that right? You are using Apple's Mail app and it's crashing?

When you restored, did you setup as a new device? That's what's required to allow the restore to fix the problem.

Have you changed anything recently? Routers, router firmware?

Does the app store on the ipad work?

What version of iOS are you running?

    Are you jailbroken?

    Some other thoughts:

Resetting all settings, resetting network settings, and clearing cache may help. As well as adding and re-adding the e-mail account. But a restore should have fixed most of those unless there's a problem with the sync process.

Are you on a Mac or a PC? Are you using Outlook? MobileMe? Do you have the most up to date version of iTunes?

I'm having a similar problem on my iPad 1.

Safari, Mail, iTunes and even the App Store crashes at open or seconds later.

Everything had been fine until I bought Infinity Blade and/or closed some apps after double clicking the home button. I'm not sure if that's relevant, but they're the only things I can think of that might have caused the problem.

I tried deleting Infinity Blade.  No good.  I tried resetting my iPad.  No good.  I tried restore, twice, no good.

My iPad is fully updated, synced, mod free.  No changes to routers, etc. Using only Apple Mail with new iMac for sync.  Wifi connection is fine from other apps.

    Any suggestions folks?

Had my Ipad running beautifully for 2 months and BAM - as soon as I went to you tube on it and listened to a music video it crashed. Screen wont move - tried to debug with apple app - no can do. What do I do now? Can I go to Apple Store in area and get help. I am not very app literate -- and Safari crashing makes it difficult to have any fun on my Ipad. How do I get Atomic browser - is it an app?

Have you tried clearing Safari's cache : Settings > Safari > Clear Cache (and Clear History)

If that doesn't work then try closing Safari completely and then re-open it : from the home screen (i.e. not with Safari 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Safari app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.

A third option is a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

Atomic Web is a browser, and along with iCab are frequently recommended on here :

    Atomic Web : http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/atomic-web-browser-browse/id347929410?mt=8

    iCab Mobile : http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/icab-mobile-web-browser/id308111628?mt=8

Follow up on my first post...

I took my iPad to the Genius Bar after restore failed to correct the apps from crashing.  They took a whack at it without any luck either... and then gave me a new iPad.  I love Apple!

This happened to me too at the apple site!  And I have been having problems very similar to what the other described, too.  Random crashes on sites heavy with graphics.
