Mar 6, 2012 5:56 PM in response to lbspartanburgby hobiz2,I think the whole problem is inadequate RAM and a different processor- 256k in ipad1, 512k and a different processor in ipad2
I crashed 10X today and each time was LOW MEMORY in the diagnostics section.
Just got off the phone again with them. 4th rep. I even asked for a machine with IOS4 as a replacement...no.
Applecare warranty states you must have the most recent software upgrade, yet Apple won't change out the hardware saying its a software concern.

Mar 7, 2012 3:11 AM in response to Rob Bruenby IM35461,I may be wrong but I think it crashes when the device checks for email!
If I delete my email account for FastmailFM Safari works such much better and I can type into it without it crashing.
This email a IMAP one without push support and my theory is it crashes if it is checking for email when you are in Safari.
Any thoughts?

Mar 7, 2012 1:45 PM in response to Rob Bruenby rage187,Alright. iOS 5.1 released today. They postponed this release until they could fix a memory leak. Let's hope this issue is resolved with this release. Please report back.

Mar 7, 2012 1:48 PM in response to Rob Bruenby Raingod,I just updated to 5.1. Didn't see any mention of this issue in the limited change logs I could find. Crossing fingers that it's be fixed.

Mar 7, 2012 2:15 PM in response to Raingodby geopix,I'm updating the iPad 1 now. The updater ReadMe said nothing about Safari, JavaScript or iOS 5.0.1 bug fixes. I also just ordered an iPad 3 (64GB/LTE Verizon) and plan to reformat this one and gift it to my sister.

Mar 7, 2012 2:11 PM in response to geopixby rage187,Apple usually doesn't mention fixing major issues in their release notes.
I also ordered and iPad 3. My 5 year old is getting this one. My wife's iPad 2 never crashes.

Mar 7, 2012 2:17 PM in response to Rob Bruenby Lockywood,5.1 installed. No Safari crashes on iPad 1 in 30 minutes (world record btw). Went to all my crash websites and put back all my notifications (messages, mail, Facebook, calendar, reminders). It's actually a little hard to do all this with my fingers crossed, but I promise to keep u posted.

Mar 7, 2012 2:20 PM in response to Rob Bruenby Raingod,Might try a full clean install in iTunes, but if it's still crashing I'm taking my iPad back to Futureshop. Hopefully I can get a new one out of my warranty.

Mar 7, 2012 2:28 PM in response to MisterWhiteby rage187,Yes. But it didn't take much to be better than 5.0 or 5.0.1.
I was finally able to turn on java for Safari. I also noticed that free memory is staying close to 12mb while 3mb was typical per 5.1. This is likely why it is more stable now.
Still some lag while typing but I can give over that.

Mar 7, 2012 2:53 PM in response to Rob Bruenby Catsman,Sadly have updated to ios5 and already have had 3 crashes from Safari. Will watch it carefully, but am at a loss as to what to do. ( ipad replaced, DFU at store, iOS 5.1 upgrade). Apple Genii still say they have not seen this before?
