Mar 9, 2012 10:43 AM in response to Rob Bruenby Raingod,Yea one of the things i regret is not getting the Apple Warranty, ended up getting the Future Shop one, which at first I though was the same but no, since the 2 years I got, wasnt 2 +1 like Apple's but just 2 years from day 1. Anyway its allready been in once, but im thinking they loaded 2 sites and since it didnt crash they blamed it on 3rd party software. But now that I have 1 site that will crash every time, then i hve the proof that I need, so going to bring it back and keep brining it back before my warranty expires in october.
I have done a full clean instal of 5.1 and it did nothing to fix the crashing, but the ipad does seem to be a little quicker.
Also havent heard back from Tim Cooks office yet.

Mar 9, 2012 11:22 AM in response to cyberjoe68by Sam Katz1,"So many issues here but no solution what the heck is this. How come no one from Apple support post any answers to this issue."
Apple does not monitor or post in this forum. To get help from Apple, call Applecare or go to the genius bar.

P.S You may want to ask them whether a DFU restore is warranted. And if you haven't done a restore since the 5.1 update, you should.
P.S Also, the safari bookmark syncing appears to be an icloud feature. You may wish to turn this off.

Mar 9, 2012 1:48 PM in response to Rob Bruenby Raingod,Wanted to update all of you on the email I sent to Tim Cook about this problem. I got a phone call today from his office, the person on the phone just wanted to let me know that they had read the email and were looking into the issue. They also ask if I was willing to talk with one of their techs so we can go over stuff and have me send them logs from my iPad. So will be doing this on Monday.

Mar 9, 2012 1:39 PM in response to Raingodby EssentialParadox,If you got a call back that's very rare! The fact you're being referred to a engineer is a very good sign!

Mar 9, 2012 3:57 PM in response to EssentialParadoxby geopix,Actually, I also got an executive relations call back in late January. I also was put in touch with an engineer, who phoned and had me send Mac "Capture Data" log files. After a few hopeful days, someone in Apple Engineering called again. In an abbreviated conversation, he said that Engineering had no other information to report. He also said that all updates to Safari are released through the normal Software Update menu, but nothing more. Later, my more detailed post referencing these exchanges was removed from this forum thread...

Mar 9, 2012 4:07 PM in response to geopixby geopix,...at the time, since Apple asked for Mac files, this led me to believe that the iPad "Safari crashing regularly" problem could be related to some iCloud sync service, and not just low memory problems, but that is just a wild guess on my part. I have no actual supporting onformation or expertise to draw any conclusion...However, I do still think this may be true, though obviously, the small amount of RAM in the iPad 1 also would seem to be an important aspect of this issue too.

Mar 9, 2012 4:22 PM in response to Rob Bruenby Christof60,Well although 5.1 update info mentioned NOTHING about the p.o.s. Safari problem, hopefully it will be fixed. It took me 11 tries to complete a forum post yesterday. I am about ready to drop-kick this iPad across the room and go back to my Microsoft OS laptop!
Yes, I wiped it. Restored from iCloud. No change. Turned off Java... No change... Downloaded and installed monitor, it only shows that even the tiniest thing will cause RAM usage % to spike to 100%, then come right down to 20-30 % with web page and 2 tabs open.....
If this issue (been reading of Safari crashes back to 2010) is NOT resolved, I will be dumping it and never buying another....
I'll get a Kindle Fire for $199 and jailbreak it for free... My friend LOVES his, and has hundreds of Android apps on it...
Steve must be up there looking down really p**s*d off!!

Mar 9, 2012 4:32 PM in response to Christof60by geopix,Well, I still love the iPad and would never consider substituting any Kindle product for it. Neither Google Android or Amazon Kindle products are versatile, professional-quality tablet computers. The Kindle fire is an eReader for consumers with some limited tablet capababilities. I'm sure it's a fine device for many people, but not for me or other professional content creators.
However, I am mortified that you, and so many others are encountering such frustrating problems. I feel fortunate that my iPad 1 appears to be working more reliably since the 5.1 update, though I do continue to use it with some fear of additional crashes, and eagerly await the arrival of a new iPad 3.

Mar 9, 2012 5:58 PM in response to Rob Bruenby Raingod,I remember your post, I would get the update in my email but when i came to the site they had been deleted. I have to say that the fact that they never gave you an answer on what they think is causing the issue doesn't bode well for us. I'm hoping that maybe this time when I talk with them they might have figured something out on why this is happening. But ill keep updating here on what they tell me. The ipads memory could be the cause of the issue, I just can't believe that Safari is using so much memory just for a webpage. Well once i've talk to the techs, i'm going to bring my Ipad back to Future Shop and try to get them to give me an Ipad 2.

Mar 9, 2012 6:42 PM in response to Rob Bruenby EssentialParadox,There's no way it could be blamed on the memory of the iPad 1, for two reasons: 1) It didn't happen with iOS 3x or 4x, and 2) It also seems to be affecting iPad 2 owners.
I personally did actually notice a significant improvement after the 5.1 update the other day. I just wish it was true of you guys also.

Mar 9, 2012 6:56 PM in response to Rob Bruenby gordo01,I suspect it is a poor system cache mangement issue because it affects many apps and under different conditions with one notable feature. If any of the suggested fixes are applied, it seems to fix it for a short while, ie until the cache becomes populated again, then back to the problems. It could be because of the added burden of iCloud, or some other change in iOS 5, but I really don't know.
Just my educated guess. Doesn't help though

Mar 9, 2012 6:56 PM in response to Rob Bruenby lbspartanburg,Well it only took five months, but I have much improved performance since the update. My iPad 1 has only crashed one time since the update. Crossing my fingers.

Mar 9, 2012 11:06 PM in response to lbspartanburgby DDHighland,I have had the same experience. It seems to be functioning much better. However, I books is still very slow and unresponsive. Oddly enough the Kindle ap runs great.

Mar 10, 2012 1:42 AM in response to Rob Bruenby Anjan Chakraborty,No crashes on 5.1 for me so far. I've turned all the iCloud preferences back on. Have deleted Skype and fring (never used them anyway).
