Sep 9, 2012 6:30 PM in response to Rob Bruenby CaliICE,I am SO SICK AND TIRED of my iPad crashing. It crashes when opening Apps. It crashes in Safari. It crawls along when I'm typing, and if I go too fast, it crashes again! Seriously...Apple needs to fix this. If I wanted something that performed like Windows, I would have bought a product running Windows.
But hey, I got the iPad 1 a year and a half ago...should I just expect Apple products to last a year, and expect to dish out $600 on a yearly basis because they're more concerned with their latest and greatest product to bother supporting something that is a mere 18 months old?
Sorry for the CAPS and sarcasm, but I'm am at the end of my rope with this **** thing.

Sep 9, 2012 11:25 PM in response to Kylazaraby Mrduttz,Have you thought that it might be the settings you are using and the combination of apps you use?
My iPad 1 was doing this but has been great since the last update.
Are you overdoing the multitasking?

Sep 10, 2012 12:10 AM in response to Mrduttzby Tobori,Yeah, then there must be tons of other people with the exact same settings. I wish there was a classaction lawsuit against Apple so that those of us with those "settings" could be compensated; for those of us that don't have the money to just shrug it off and go buy a new one...problem solved!

Sep 10, 2012 12:17 AM in response to CaliICEby Tobori,Sorry to inform you, but I'm in the same situation that you're in and I was informed that my iPad is "EOL", which means End Of Life and there is no support for such an OLD device.
My Windows computer is about 6 years old and running fine. Rarely crashes and I can still get support, so I don't know what you're talking about.
Guess you'll have to get used to this or buy another iPad if buying a PC is out of the question.
I just picked up a Samsung Tab and love it. It works and guess what? It hasn't crashed once!

Sep 10, 2012 2:32 AM in response to Mrduttzby Bugfixer,I am in the same situation as many others, I've done also a full reinstall of the latest iOS version for my iPad1, but there is nothing to do: after some time not only Safari but also many other apps go into crash or they are terminated by the system.
I've bought the iPad in 2010; it worked always very well, but since when I've installed iOS5... many crashes.
Now I've also a iPhone 3GS, which is basically the same processor and RAM than the iPad1: not only iOS5 is ok, I've a couple of friends who develop on iOS, they say Apple has done a good job with iOS6, because it goes (with some limitaions) with no problems on theyr iPhone 3GSs. They are using successufully their 3GSs with a beta version of iOS6!
I can understand that Apple dosn't want install iOS6 on a such (old?) iPad. But iOS5 should run better than this (ridiculous) way.

Sep 10, 2012 9:49 PM in response to Toboriby aimeefromtopsham,Wow! I have heard that the new Galaxy Tabs are pretty good. Also, Amazon just came out with the Kindle Fire 8.9" and they even have a 4G LTE model for $499.
Sadly, I hardly ever use my iPad 1 anymore. It just has become unusable. I have deleted everything off of it, it is rebooted once a day, and I even clear cookies and history every day. And, guess what? It STILL crashes - A LOT!
$500.00 for something that only lasts about 2 years? Not good in my book, I am sorry. I do love my iPhone, though, and will still get one of those every two years, but no more iPads for me, unfortunately.

Sep 13, 2012 9:01 PM in response to Rob Bruenby jimsimp3,Hello,
I too have experienced the same problem with my iPad 1. I first noticed it after I upgraded to OS 5.1 (last Fall).
I have taken it back to the Genius Bar a few times and contacted Apple Support via telephone in the last few months.
They finally replaced it with another iPad 1 last week. (I did have Apple Care).
Guess what ......... the new one does the same thing. Only in Safari and when I am browsing places like Facebook or Yahoo news. It has done it when I have been on this forum before too.
The last time the Apple Genius tested it and said was a low memory issue. That's fine but it does it when I have no other apps running.
My iPad is almost 2 years old and the Apple-Care ends this month. I hate to think that a $800 + machine is obsolete and useless.
Does anyone have any answers or tips ............. other than buying the new WIndows tablet coming out soon ?
Thanks

Sep 14, 2012 12:01 AM in response to CaliICEby KRuda,I feel your pain and frustration. My iPad crashes several times per hour, making it all but worthless $830 paperweight. I always make sure that I don't have any other applications running or too many windows open in the browser. Heck, I can't even spend much time on Apple's own website because Safari will crash. I've tried other browsers and some work better than others. I think I like Google Chrome best, but it's not a cure all.
I am not going to buy or recommend another Apple product, including any additional Apps or iTunes until this matter is resolved.
I was hoping iOS 6 would help, but I found out that it would not be availble for the Original iPad. So we are out of luck there.
In the mean time, I suggest to clear history, cache and turn off all notifications for all apps excepts those that a must for you. Keep your multitasking to a minimum. Delete any unused and worthless app you don't use. I have a 64 gig with 3G and have less than 2 gigs of storage used.
I hope this helps.
Take care!

Sep 14, 2012 1:06 PM in response to KRudaby Rustforlife,I am another APPLE customer, well I guess former customer now. My ipad 1 is having the same problems that are described by previous posters, no need to elaborate. Spending the money I did, to have no support after a couple of years is very disappointing. No new Apple products in this house....
So, what's a good replacement for this thing?

Sep 15, 2012 11:10 PM in response to Rob Bruenby DMGraham1983,Okay, so I have an iPad 1st gen AND a recently procured iPad 3rd gen....the "new" iPad. They both have the same issue. The crashes are mostly in Safari, oftentimes on Facebook. I wipe the website data, cookies, history...you name it. Apple needs to get their crap together and start standing by their products even when a new one comes out.

Sep 16, 2012 10:20 AM in response to Sam Katz1by K'Shanti,I just foun this thread, after suffering numerous app and Safari crashes on my 1 year old iPad 2. I have plenty of available memory, clear out my multitasking bar regularly(several times a day), and discharge my battery monthly. I went to the Genius Bar and was told to do a full restore. Sometimes that's just not an option. Too much data to reset. The cranky Genuis who recommended a restore doesn't understand the months of tweaking it takes to set things up just so on a device. I thought it was just me, but reading this thread, I can see that I'm not alone.
You mentioned that you were becoming annoyed at getting pinged when emails come in. You can opt out of being notified by email re: responses, you know. Then just check the thread when you're curious.

Sep 16, 2012 4:29 PM in response to K'Shantiby jimsimp3,Like I mentioned in my post, the problem did not start until I upgraded to the latest OS, 5.0

Sep 16, 2012 5:07 PM in response to jimsimp3by K'Shanti,I believe that you give up the right to any type of litigation when you sign the iTunes agreement. Your only recourse is to give your Feedback. Give it often, give it eloquently, and give it in front of the right audience. Your other option is to simply stop purchasing Apple products but as we can all see here, we have become iAddicted, all of us. If we go for anything less than Apple, the lack becomes obvious beyond belief.
We can only hope that Apple heeds our cries for help...

Sep 17, 2012 1:55 AM in response to K'Shantiby Tobori,Speak for yourself. At this rate you'd have to be stupid to spend your money on another Apple product. I have only owned one rotten Apple product, which is the iPad, and that's how it's going to stay. I'm not an idiot and refuse to be suckered into spending another cent on something that has such a horribly short lifespan due to Apple's greed.
