Wide-Area Service Discovery error msg in log Leopard Power Mac G5

Does anyone know how to get rid of errors in log saying Wide-Area Service Discovery disabled to avoid crashing defective DNS relay. I use Verizon business DSL, Leopard and .Mac. I have several Verizon servers listed in my network configuration. What is Wide-Area Service Discovery and how do I get rid of it? It doesn't seem to cause any harm to me, but the messages keep showing up after every startup.

Power Mac G5, Mac OS X (10.5), Mac OS X (10.4.10) on external HD now

See fifth paragraph from bottom at http://aplawrence.com/MacOSX/console-logs.html and you can try this with mixed mileage to stop the service:

sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist

Same code as above with load to reload the service.
Do not try this on Snow Leopard.
