How to disable soft or hard reset???

I would like to prevent people in my house from resetting the airport extreme by pressing the reset button -- is there a way to disable that? If not, is there a way from preventing the "default" wireless MAC address under Access Control from switching over from "No Access" to "Everyday" when the reset key is pressed? Please tell me there's a way to lock this thing down... thanks

macbook, Mac OS X (10.6.3), airport extreme

Sorry, no.

Well, maybe you locate the AirPort Extreme in a locked room or cabinet? 🙂

Or, disconnect and hide the power supply 🙂

Otherwise, it's not possible to disable the reset button unless you manually open up the AirPort Extreme case (which voids the warranty) to place an insulated barrier between the two contact points on the reset button. Even if you did this, a clever person would probably know or discover quickly that they can reset the device using software only.

Bob,

thanks for your response. I was curious about your statement, "...a clever person would probably know or discover quickly that they can reset the device using software only."

If I'm the only one that has the password to login to the router, besides them hacking the password, what do you mean by "using software only"?

Thanks again, j

If you are the only one who has the password for the device, then it would be difficult for an average user to reset the device using software. As you are probably aware, if you can access the device using AirPort Utility, you can reset the device back to factory defaults without touching the reset button.
