Completely dead ipad - will not charge

Hope someone can offer suggestions

this is a 64MB wifi ipad I have had since 30th April. I love it and it has been excellent until today.

I had used it yesterday evening and it still had 55% showing on the battery - so it was just switched off overnight and left (no wifi running there is no signal where I am as we are away from home in our motorhome and I only charge it when it drops to 20%). Now it has been being charged bias it's mains lead via an inverter

When I looked this morning it was dead - I thought it odd but plugged it in to charge - only there was not the usual start up just nothing. And nothing still later

as I not home I do not have access to a mains socket or my computer

any thoughts would be appreciated

Hi,

Try pressing SLEEP/WAKE button and HOME button *at the same time* to force it restart for 2 or 3 times and see if it can turn on. Sometime it's just turn off by itself (happens more frequently for me esp when the battery is low) and we have to force it to start again.

Hope this helps,

Good tip on holding down home button and sleep/wake button for about 10 seconds.

This fixed my dead iPad problem. When it came back on it was 84% battery so the issue with it going dead was not a weak battery.

The iPad was working for me about noon today and then around 3:30pm, I went to use it again and it was completely dead. I pressed and help the sleep/wake button and no luck.

Did not drop it or be rough with it, it was just DEAD.

Came online to see if others were having the same issue and found this tip. Hurray!!!!

Anyway this is a very good tip and I bet it fixes most DEAD IPAD issues.

Sounds like the iPad dying is a common problem. I'm wondering what happens to cause this to happen???

It happened to me today and my battery was at 85%, so like others it wasn't a low battery or anything that was or wasn't done to the iPad. I also was using it just fine, left it for awhile and when I came back it was totally dead. When this happens, it won't respond by being plugged in to the wall or the computer.

Fortunately the holding of the sleep button and the home button at the same time will reset it and cause it to start working. That didn't work for me at first but did wake up later when I was about to give up. It suddenly came on so I could stop having a heart attack 🙂

Thanks for the help received on the discussion. This board is wonderful!

Hello i have the same problem as T-khmer, the ipad literally went dead, and wont wake up. It will only wake up when i charge it into a wall charger, displaying a low battery (red with no 'lightning' indicator) then the apple logo. After about 2 mins at the home screen where the battery displays 70%, the ipad's screen blackens and restarts. Never ending cycle.

Another issue is when I plug off the charger the ipad dies (like no battery it depends on the charger).

Please help us. Thank youuuu! Im from a province in the philippines so no apple repair center. :(

Same issue found this post here on Google search for dead ipad battery, what really bothers me is that my Ipad was completly shut down, I went on Vacation for one week, came back and the ipad that was turned off, was completly dead, now that bothers me because there is no reason for this behavior, plugged up the ipad via the supplied usb port, (nothing) no charge, get the red battery of death,😠

Dug around until I found my un-used AC charger, (took an hour to find it)

And it started up right away, no problems, at all;, showed a 2 percent charge, so regardless of a manual or not, what bothers me is that I have had this ipad for one year, and never had any problems at all out of it, so why a dead battery issue, what is the cause of this behavior, that is what I am interested in learning more about.
