Like my subject title says, right after I updated to Snow Leopard 10.6.4 the font in Mozilla Firefox got messed up and do not look the way that they used too. I had it the way I liked but now on certain sites, it's not messed up on all sites, like on the apple site I have no font problems. But, like at google the fonts jacked up and at many other sites it's smaller and looks weird.
What can I do to fix this?
Thank you.
MacBook Pro 7,1 (2.4 Ghz, 4GB, 250GB),
Mac OS X (10.6.3)
i am also having an issue... i can not install any fonts useing FontExplorer... this is a BIG problem. i even tried re installing everything... nope... nothing.
I'm in the same boat. After validating my fonts, I've got 164 "minor problems" and 11 "serious errors".
I've downloaded hundreds of fonts over the years, and don't want to just delete all of them.
Same problems after updating to 10.6.4. I'm a manual font manager... with lots of fonts 'activated' in the Mac OS Fonts folders. Only a few system fonts showed up.
I did the Firefox cache thing... restarted and everything works again. Why on earth is Firefox a solution for this problem?
Updated to 10.6.4 on two Macs, only one had font problems.
Well I did them both and one of them worked, I suspect it was the terminal thing as neither FE or FB would work. Font Book didn't manage to import a lot of my fonts without displaying errors or even quitting and Font Explorer would have the fonts but couldn't activate them.
I wish I found this thread before my last wasted hour.
I installed Font Explorer 2.5.1 and nothing would activate under 10.6.3
All fonts added showed up as "Not Available"
I always follow your recommendations for removing all but the required fonts in the operating system, and due to my prepress environment MUST use our own Helvetica.
I got it to work by turing off the Apple Font Protection in Terminal:
atsutil fontprotection -off
then
atsutil databases -removeUser
then
atsutil server -shutdown
then
atsutil server -ping
Rebooted and Font Explorer worked like a champ.
Thanks for your awesome document on dealing with fonts in OSX, it is invaluable!

Thank you, Todd. And thanks for the note on turning off font protection in the Terminal. I've looked at atsutil only in regards to removing the cache files and hadn't bothered to read through the rest of the options. I'll have to give it a more thorough look.
