Quicklook doesnt preview videos anymore

I tried the search but the results were few and not exactly related to my problem. Google didn't help either. I don't really know what I did (other than set VLC as default avi, mkv, mov, mp4 player over MplayerOSX extended) but QuickLook no longer shows/plays a video when I spacebar on them.

Okay mkv never worked with Quicklook but avi did. Now it just shows an icon of VLC with the duration bar on the bottom and time elapsed. It does play the audio but the sound stutters. Switching back to MPlayer as the default doesn't fix this. Mov and mp4 does work but the majority of my videos are in avi.

Anyone know where I can look to see how to fix this?

okay I forget to mention I did already do the update before making the post, just that I didn't really notice it until checking out some vids.

I tried the disk utility -> first aid -> repair permissions and though there were a lot of things needing permission repairs, unfortunately it didn't fix the issue. Remarkably QuickLook can preview wmv.

On a side note, I do have perian installed but it states it is the most updated version (1.2)
