Time Machine Error -35

Yesterday I d/l TimeMachineBuddy when TM failed and it pointed me to a file that it didn't like. Then TM behaved as usual (well, that is). The TM disk is 2TB and is only a couple of months old.

Today, 4 hours ago, backup failed and TMBuddy showed me "Error -35 while resolving alias to backup target. Backup failed with error 27." The info icon in the TM prefs menu says it may have been ejected or disconnected -- which it hasn't and I've checked the connections which seem firm. No backups have been done since and the icon has disappeared. I've restarted but there's no change. Hope very much there's a solution for which I'd be most grateful. Many thanks.

Hi, and welcome to the forums.

If you mean the icon on your desktop and/or Finder sidebar, that's not a good sign. 😟

Try to repair your backups, per #A5 in Time Machine - Troubleshooting (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).

If the drive doesn't show up in Disk Utility's sidebar, disconnect it and power it off for a few moments, then power on and reconnect it. If still no luck, try different ports, cables, and combinations of them (a plug that works fine in one port may not quite make good contact in another).

What kind of drive is this? (Make, USB or Firewire, separate power supply, etc.)

Hi Pondini, many thanks for your answer. The drive is a 2TB Hitachi Simple Drive USB2. However, I followed your advice and unplugged everything -- and bingo! It's now working as it should. Perhaps it's because my office cleaner was over-enthusiastic about moving things/dusting ... ? Who knows. I'm just so grateful for your reply. Thank you.

Yup, that could cause a problem.

Glad it's sorted out, and thanks for the feedback.
